The Hillsboro Garden Club hosted the Ohio Association of Garden Club's Region 16 Fall Meeting on Oct. 12.

Hillsboro President Judith Stivender welcomed 63 attendees from 13 garden clubs to the lovely Lake View Loft in Highland County.

The business meeting was called to order by Regional Director Barbara Myers. After the roll call, treasurer and secretary reports were given and state officers June Gebhardt, Debbie Downes and Jill Beder were acknowledged.

Denise Mootz of the Lake View Loft gave a brief history of the loft and farm.

The first speaker was Steve Karnes of Karnes Orchard. Mr. Karnes described how this family-owned orchard has adapted to changing times and meeting new challenges.

Tom Harker of OSU South Research Center spoke on methods of controlling beetles, slugs and other backyard pests.

The last speaker of the day was Rich Stewart, owner and operator of Bee Wild Honey, who spoke on bees, beekeeping and honey production.

The meeting closed with the Regional Director's report, door prizes and an invitation to the 2023 spring meeting.

Thanks go to the Hillsboro Garden Club members for their hard work and planning, Denise Mootz for providing a wonderful event space for the meeting (and introducing us to her adorable baby donkey) and Shoelaces Catering for a delicious lunch.
