Hillsboro Garden Club hosts Ohio Region 16 meeting

The Hillsboro Garden Club hosted the Region 16 Spring Regional meeting May 10 at the Hillsboro Ponderosa Banquet center.
The meeting’s theme was “Renew for Spring” and was attended by members of Bellbrook, Clear Creek, Fayette, Hillsboro, Open Gate, Osborn Historic, Red Bud, Valley View, Washington, Waynesville and Wilmington garden clubs, as well as representatives of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs (OAGC).

The meeting began with Nancy Sonner welcoming the attendees. Region 16 Regional Director Carol Gorby opened the meeting. After regional chair reports, OAGC awards were announced. The Hillsboro Garden Club won a superior award for their publicity and program books, and Hillsboro member Mary Smith won the Amateur Gardener award for Region 16.
OAGC President Geri Rea encouraged everyone to attend the 88th state convention at Deer Creek State park in June.
The morning program was “A Lifetime Landscaper’s 10 Favorite Tips” given by Steve Boehme of Goodseed Farm Landscapes. After a lunch buffet provided by Ponderosa, the afternoon program on “Herbs and How to Use Them” was given by Vivian Pfankuch of Jaybird Farms.
The Fayette Garden Club invited everyone to the fall regional meeting on Oct. 12, and raffle and auction winners were announced.
Donations were given by Lowe’s, Moore’s Garden House, Family Farm and Country Store, JR’s Amish Country Store, McClish’s Plants Plus, Spring Valley Farm Market, Janie’s Closet and Rainsboro Produce.
