Hillsboro Eagle Riders make $2,014 donation to Camp Itawa

Once again, members of the Hillsboro Eagle Riders made a difference in the lives of a lot of adults with disabilities in Highland County.
The Hillsboro Eagle Riders were chartered in 2009 as part of the Hillsboro Eagles 1161 and has approximately 75 members. The group holds two poker runs a year to raise money for area charities. This year, the group raised $2,014 for Camp Itawa.
Camp Itawa was organized five years ago and is a four-day camp for adults with disabilities, held at Fort Hill Christian Camp near Sinking Spring. More than 55 campers enjoyed this year’s camp which included a visit from members of the Eagle Riders who presented the group a check.
“All the campers really enjoyed watching those motorcycles roll into the camp grounds,” said Jordan Freeze, director of Camp Itawa. “This is the third year in a row that the Eagle Riders have helped us out with a generous donation which pays for quite a few of our campers to attend the camp. Most of them don’t have jobs so we work all year raising money for them.”

The Eagle Riders hold a poker run each spring and each fall as a fundraiser, according to Eagle Rider member Anna Gullett. “We love what that camp does,” Gullett said. “All of us in the group feel like this is a worthwhile event in our community. Once kids out-grow Camp Dovetail this camp is their next step.
The Eagle Riders share the same motto as the Eagles, ‘People Helping People’ and we take it seriously.”
