Hillsboro Christian Academy has filled 50 boxes for Operation Christmas Child this year, as Operation Christmas Child observes National Collection Week through Nov. 23.

The closest drop-off location for Highland County will be at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church.

Hillsboro collection hours are: Nov. 20 until 5 p.m.; Nov. 21, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Nov. 22, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Nov. 23, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

During this time of year, children need to know that God loves them and has not forgotten them during this time of fear and uncertainty. Children need “great joy” now more than ever. Most of all, they need the hope found only in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

While many children would not be excited about receiving a small shoebox filled with simple items, remember that most of the children receiving a shoebox have never before had a gift of any kind.

However, the most important item they receive is a small booklet containing the Gospel story written in their own language, entitled “The Greatest Gift of All.” The followup book for the older children is “The Greatest Journey.” This is taught by a trained person. At the end of the lessons, the children are treated to a graduation, complete with cap and gown, and are presented with a small Bible.

If you want to support this ministry and feel you cannot shop for the shoeboxes, you might consider some other options. Other than the traditional boxes, you can go on the OCC website and build a box online. It is simple to do. Also, check out the “follow your box” option. You can order labels for each box and pay for the shipping at the same time.
