Highland County youth raise money for Make-A-Wish at OCA Celebrity Showdown

Four Highland County youth recently participated in the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association BEST Celebrity Showdown in Springfield to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The fourth annual event was held Friday, Feb. 5 at the Champions Center in Springfield.
Sydney Sanders, Carly Sanders, Blake Herdman and Emma Yochum, all of Highland County, raised money and created costumes for themselves and their heifer or steer.

BEST youth were asked to dress up their cattle and present it to judges from the Harmony Township Fire Department.
Participants, ages 8-21, were asked to raise a minimum of $100 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Emma Yochum raised $665 for the cause.
The girls then had to come up with a costume for themselves and their heifer or steer. Carly Sanders was Batman; Sydney Sanders was a firewoman, with her steer dressing up as a dalmatian; Blake Herdman and her heifer were clowns; and Emma Yochum was Miss Rodeo Ohio, and her steer wore a saddle and dressed up as a horse.
Over $16,000 was raised at the Celebrity Showdown, according to the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association.
Incentive prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers at the OCA BEST Program Banquet on May 7, 2016. Donations to Make-A-Wish will continue to be accepted after the Celebrity Showdown until the BEST Banquet. The BEST Celebrity Showdown at the Clark County Cattle Battle is a part of the Kids For Wish Kids® program. It gives students the opportunity to help make wishes come true. Students develop fundraising ideas under the supervision of a teacher, principal or club adviser and help share the power of a wish®.
