The Highland County Veterans Honor Guard recently presented plaques to two Hillsboro businesses in recognition of their contributions to a mural project at the VFW Post 9094.

Receiving plaques were Papa Johns Pizza and Sherwin-Williams.

As previously reported, the Honor Guard hosted a mural dedication ceremony May 31 at the VFW Post 9094 on West Main Street in Hillsboro to show the Honor Guard's appreciation to the Hillsboro High School Art Club.

In August 2023, Highland County Veterans Honor Guard Commander Rudy Diskete contacted the art departments at all Highland County high schools to see if they would be interested in entering a contest to paint a patriotic-themed mural on the side of the Honor Guard's bus shelter at the VFW. The Hillsboro Art Club agreed to complete the project.

On Wednesday, Aug. 14 on behalf of the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard, Diskete presented Rick Ryan, General Manager of Papa Johns Pizza, and Mary Wright, co-owner of the Sherwin-Williams Paint Store, with appreciation plaques for all their support.

Papa John's Pizza helped out with the mural dedication event by providing pizza at a substantial discount so that the Honor Guard could feed the art club and all who were in attendance. Sherwin-Williams supplied all the paint for the project.
