The Highland County Retired Teachers Association (HCRTA) met for its regular quarterly meeting Aug. 6 at the Ponderosa Banquet Center in Hillsboro.

Following a delicious meal, the group heard a report on the history of the Highland County Fair, which was presented by Dave Stratton. Stratton serves as the secretary of the Senior Fair Board.

Jana Holbrook then updated everyone on the new rules and procedures that have occurred in recent years. She serves as the Junior Fair Coordinator.

Both speakers gave excellent presentations. The eight-day fair occurs during the first week of September.

The HCRTA meets four times per year. A special educational program is always a part of the agenda, which is then followed by the business meeting.

The next meeting will be held Nov. 5. The guest speaker will be from STRS and will update everyone on health care and other pertinent issues related to retired teachers.
