Highland County Model Railroaders mark 9th year at Highland County Fair

The Highland County Model Railroaders are celebrating their ninth year at the Highland County Fair, setting up a large train display for people of all ages to enjoy.
The display can be viewed at Exhibition Hall at the Highland County Fairgrounds throughout the fair, set for Sept. 3-10.
Club members John Knoechelman said the group is sponsored by Peace Lutheran Church on Harry Sauner Road, but the club is “open to anyone interested in model railroading,” regardless of church affiliation.
“We work in the HO Scale mostly,” Knoechelman said. “We like to go to train shows, take field trips and just work on train sets all year long.”

Knoechelman and fellow railroader Jeff Boester said that the fair is “a great place to exhibit what we do” and to showcase their impressive display, which is approximately 16 feet by 24 feet.
“If anybody has a train and would like to bring it out and run it, we’ll put it on the tracks,” Boester said. “It’s for all ages, young kids and older adults. It’s a great way to remember the good old days.”
