Highland County Humane Society spotlights dogs, cats available for adoption

Meet Ali. She is a cattle dog mix. She was found as an underweight stray dog. She has been at the Humane Society since February 2014. She is a wonderful 3-year-old dog. Volunteers say she is good on a leash, enjoys being outside and playing with a ball and getting lots of attention. Ali does not like children and wants all your attention and does not want to share you with another pet.
Some people may want to know why the Humane Society charges for these stray and unwanted dogs. When we get a dog in, we give it all their shots and spay or neuter the adult dogs. For the puppies that are taken home from the shelter, a $50 voucher is available to help the owner spay or neuter them. Sometimes the dog may be in really bad shape and needs to see a veterinarian. The local veterinarians do our surgeries at a reduced cost, but it still takes a lot of money to pay for whatever is left over.
The Humane Society wants to draw a spotlight on some other dogs. Missy is a 1-year-old female border collie. She is spayed. They nicknamed her “Smiles” as she is a happy dog. She was a Humane call and in a terrible situation. She needs a loving family that will play with her, feed her, walk her and give her a forever home.
We are also in need of a retired person(s) to adopt a female shih-tzu. She is an older dog who is tired and needs a loving lap to sit in. She is a nice dog.

Pansy is an 8-month-old Australian shepherd mix that was a surrender dog as the owner could not take care of her. She is spayed.
We also have four dachshund/beagle mix puppies that are very cute, wormed and have their first shots. There are three males and one female.
We have six butterscotch kittens, weaned and ready to go home. There is also one black cat that is in need of a home.
