Press Release-
The Highland County Homeless Shelter clients have selected Operation Christmas Child as part of the shelter’s way of giving back to those in need. Fifty boxes were packed and are on their way to children around the world.

No funding from the shelter is utilized for the Operation Christmas Child project. This was only made possible through the kind donations of Amatha Farrens – State Farm Insurance and shelter staff.

HCHS is now working on gathering new toy donations for the Highland County Community Action’s “Community Christmas” program. A drop box is available in the lobby of the Highland County Homeless Shelter for your convenience. Additionally, all monetary donations up to $1,000 will be matched by RiverHills bank until Nov. 30.

The Highland County Homeless Shelter is open and continues to serve those in need during the pandemic. HCHS currently has Homeless Prevention funds available until the end of 2020 for those facing eviction due to COVID-19-related financial issues. Simply call the shelter at (937) 393-0634 to begin the process.

“On behalf of the Highland County Homeless Shelter, I would like to thank all the local businesses that have donated to the HCHS over the years,” Executive Director Greg Hawkins said. “Please buy local. Let’s support local businesses in Highland County the way they support the community. This is our opportunity to help them stay open and to continue to provide employment opportunities and services in Highland County.”
