Highland County Historical Society plans special event to ring in new year

During the final Board Meeting of the Highland County Historical Society held Dec. 15, it was decided to hold a final year-end activity.
On Dec. 31 at 11:59 p.m., the big bell in front of the Highland House Museum will be rung through the arrival of the New Year at midnight.

It is quite a job to ring that bell, and HCHS board member and Hillsboro City Council member Justin Harsha has been chosen to do it – in honor and memory of his dad, former Hillsboro Mayor Sandy Harsha – and in honor of former HCHS board member Lester Wallis, husband of historian Jean Wallis.
The public is invited to bring hand bells and join in the celebration. Leave your parties and homes just a little early, and bring your children and guests with you. There is room for all who can come. This is a community activity to join together and ring in a wonderful New Year.
