Highland County Democrats are going all in to celebrate the Kentucky Derby in style with a Run for the Roses fundraiser supporting Congressional candidate Samantha Meadows.

Post time is 5-7 p.m. on May 4, with snacks, games, Derby décor and faux mint juleps waiting at the gate at the Highland County Democratic Party Headquarters, 221 Chillicothe Ave., Hillsboro.

Derby committee chair, Pat Lawrence, says, “It’s officially time for winners to line up. Choose your colors, select a hat, invite a friend, meet the candidate. Be sassy, be stylish, be silly or sensational, just be there to cheer for your favorite horse and enjoy a colorful evening out.”

Dinah Phillips, HCD chair, says, “It’s an exciting night. We have a thrilling race, the Kentucky Derby, and an important race, Samantha Meadows for Congress. The horses have what they need for a good run. We want Samantha Meadows to have what she needs for a winning run.

“We encourage attendees to contribute at least $20 for the evening, then, eat, drink, be merry and improve the odds for responsible representation in Congress. It’s a sure bet you’ll have some fun, and maybe, ride home with a blue ribbon.”

Lawrence says, “Players can try their hand at the perfect political game, ‘Left, Right and Center,’ or pony up for the drawing prize by choosing the winning horse. Ribbons will be awarded for stylish and exuberant hats after we watch the race. It’s all happening from 5-7pm at the Highland County Democratic Party Headquarters, 221 Chillicothe Avenue in Hillsboro. Grab a hat, take a chance and join us for a fun run with a purpose.”

HCD treasurer, Phil Burchett says, “Those who wish to support Samantha in her race but must miss the event can mail their check to HCDP Headquarters, made out to Samantha Meadows Committee to Elect for Congress. Checks are appreciated anytime, but won’t be deposited until after the Kentucky Derby.”
