HHS students present musical program at Woman's Club meeting
For the second year in a row, two Hillsboro High School students delighted members of the Hillsboro Woman’s Club with a beautiful musical program to highlight the club’s December meeting, held at the Masonic Temple.
HHS junior Christopher Ford, vocal soloist, accompanied on the piano by fellow HHS junior Daniel Jacky, presented typical Christmas favorites in their amazing atypical style. The boys’ parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jacky and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Ford, all of Hillsboro.
Selections included “Ave Maria,” “Joy to the World” and “White Christmas,” among many others. Their version of “Silent Night” was first sung by Ford in the German language, followed by a piano solo of the same tune by Jacky and ending with club members joining them to sing the English version.

When their program to its conclusion, the club members, hungry for more beautiful melodies, begged for an encore. The young men then performed the beautiful “Believe” from the movie “The Polar Express.”
A delicious luncheon prepared by caterer Avery Elliott was next, followed by the club’s business meeting, presided over by club president Mary Todd Hardeman. She began by reading the famous newspaper response written in 1897 by editor Charles Dana of the New York Sun, which answered the question, “Is there a Santa Claus?”
Hardeman also thanked the day’s hostess committee, Toy Fender and Eleanor Williams, for planning the day’s meeting and decorating the luncheon tables in holiday fashion.
The reports of the secretary and treasurer were given and approved. In conclusion, members were reminded that the next meeting will be on March 8, following the club’s usual winter hiatus.
