HHS grad donates hair to Locks of Love

For Brendan Karl Michael Eltzroth, it was just a “big haircut.”
But it was far more than a “hair today, gone tomorrow” situation.
Brendan, a 2013 graduate of Hillsboro High School and a student at Wright State University, decided over this past weekend to cut his long, flowing hair and donate it to Locks of Love.
“I just decided to do it,” said Brendan, who ran cross country, played in the band and was in National Honor Society at HHS. “We checked to see if it was long enough, and it was. I had grown it out for three years or so.”
His mother, Judy Culberson Taylor, did the honors of snipping his long locks on Sunday afternoon.

“While I loved his hair and miss it, I am so proud of him,” Judy said. “I cried. He has the biggest heart ever. It’s only hair and it will grow back.
“Maybe he can donate again in a few years.”
Locks of Love (www.locksoflove.org) is a public, non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children and young adults in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
Brendan, a 19-year-old economics major at Wright State, said he was happy to be able to donate to the organization, but added that it was strange when he took a look in the mirror for the first time after his “big haircut.”
“It’s weird,” he said. “When I wash my hair now, I find I’m using way too much shampoo, and I’ve got a lot of comments since the haircut.
"Some people said they like the shorter hair, but it seems that more people are telling me they miss the long hair.
“I may grow it out, but I’m not sure I’ll let it get that long again. We’ll see.”
