Heartland residents hear Lincoln School marchers’ story during recent program

Once a month, a special program is presented to the residents of Heartland of Hillsboro. The January program was on a history-making event that happened in Hillsboro in the 1950s. This was called The Lincoln School Project, or sometimes referred to as The Mothers’ March, which went on for two years.

This was the fight for school integration of Hillsboro schools. The program was presented by Deb Koehl, along with ladies whose mothers participated in the march. A film was shown of the march.

Other monthly programs of interest have been given in the past by Sherry Barber, the Highland County Historical Society, Wade Hamilton, Hillsboro and Wilmington police officers, the Paint Creek fire chief, a U.S. Army Reserve member, a deputy sheriff, the owners of the Paxton Theater and Professor Jennifer Walker from Wilmington College. Each month, a new surprise program is presented to the residents.
