It is the time that a lot of us are making New Year's resolutions for 2022. Common resolutions among Americans include exercising more, saving money, eating more healthily and losing weight. While all these are excellent ideas to include in your resolution and everyday life, we should make these goals attainable for ourselves. We should not compare our resolutions to others, some of us may take longer to reach our resolution and that is totally OK.

Here are a few resolutions that can be helpful, and you can tailor them to your needs.
Build a budget – this will save money and let you see where all your money is going and how you can improve your spending.

Cook one new healthy meal or side dish each week – this will allow you to try new foods but not overwhelm yourself at mealtimes with new flavors and textures.

Start a new hobby – Pick up a new hobby, maybe try sewing, reading, or find crossword puzzles to get your brain working.

Eat vegetables regularly – find new ways of cooking vegetables like baking or sautéing to broaden your intake of different vegetables. This will fill you up and you will be able to go longer between meals without grabbing a snack.

Take the stairs whenever possible – taking the stairs can assist in weight loss and improve mobility.

Drink more water – when you are thirsty, choose a cold glass of water instead of soda or sugar sweetened beverages. Did you know the average American should be drinking 64 ounces of water each day? That is eight 8-ounce cups of water. Get a refillable water bottle to make it easier to take your water on the go.

Do one thing at a time – a lot of us may multitask and it works well for us but when we do so we cannot give one task our full attention. Instead of multitasking, break your workday up into chunks of time for each task so you can put all your focus and attention into one task at a time.

This year, let us all have our own resolutions that are realistic and attainable in our everyday lives. We do not want to set a goal that cannot be reached in a timely manner. If you do reach your goal, that is great. Find another goal or resolution to work on after you accomplish your first one.
