“Caring. Close to Home” is a fitting tagline for Highland District Hospital. It seems just as fitting for a 9 year volunteer who just chalked up 4,000 volunteer hours. Jane Conley is a volunteer who has been committed to the mission of caring through her service to HDH as a volunteer.
Jane is married to Denver Conley, who is a commissioner for the Veterans. She has two sisters, Clara Porter and Sandra Schroeder, both of whom volunteer at the hospital. Jane was born in Hillsboro, at the old Hillsboro Hospital, and grew up on a farm in the Sugar Tree Ridge area. She worked as an educational aide at the Washington Elementary school for 35 years. Jane stated that once she retired from Hillsboro City Schools, she received a call from Pat Kelch, a volunteer at HDH – “both of us knew I would need something to do.” Currently, Jane volunteers in the Gift Shop assisting customers, as well as in Pre-Admission Testing, where she files paperwork, and runs any errands needed within the hospital. Jane is a ‘Jack of all Trades,’ she says. She enjoys meeting and talking to the patients, paperwork and volunteering, as she also volunteers at the Good Samaritan Outreach in Hillsboro during the summer. Jane’s willingness to serve is invaluable to Highland District Hospital, and the lives she touches through volunteering. Congratulations to Jane Conley, we’re proud she is on the HDH team.
