Handmade dolls on display at Hillsboro library

Lead Summary
By
Sarah Davidson-
Handmade dolls that were crafted and designed by a local artist are currently on display at the Hillsboro library.

The late Jan Marie Donie created her own patterns for both and for their clothes and accessories. They are "all entirely original," said her husband Wayne.

"She had the idea, (then) developed the designs for creating the patterns and the clothes," he said. "It probably (took) two months to create each one of them."

The dolls have an array of themes, ranging from a monk and and a nun duo to an Old West couple.

Wayne Donie described his wife's inspiration for the dolls, saying, “I think it was the love she had for children” that motivated her.

He also said that in addition to her dolls, Jan Marie Donie also painted, did needlework, quilted and made tapestries. Her oil paintings were previously on display in the Hillsboro library's fiction room.

The library's assistant supervisor Donna O'Dom described the current doll exhibit as another example of the “multitalented” Janet Marie Donie's work.
