Guest evangelists to speak at Highland County Church of Christ

Kelly Lawson and Brother Paul of Dallas, Texas, are scheduled to present a series of lessons on evangelism at the Highland County Church of Christ in October.
The evangelists will be in Hillsboro Oct. 15-17. On Sunday, Oct. 17, there is a Bible study at 10 a.m., followed by worship at 11 a.m. A free lunch will be provided by the ladies of the congregation in the annex building next to the church house immediately after services.
Anybody and everybody are invited to join the church for this special evangelism series. Come Sunday, or after worshipping with your home congregation. Everyone is welcome, and the congregation will be looking for you.
Evangelist Lawson graduated from Summit Theological Seminary and often speaks of the good influence George Faull, the late president of Summit, had on his life.
Faull was a preacher well-known among members of the church of Christ in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Lawson added that “George Faull gave me my education." Faull founded Summit Theological Seminary and was president of the school that trains men to become evangelists. He continued as the chancellor of the Seminary until his death. The school is affiliated with the Christian churches and churches of Christ.
Lawson added, “From the gates of hell itself, George Faull came to me at the United States penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas. I contacted George Faull and received my college education and graduated from Summit Theological Seminary 50 years ago."
Evangelist Lawson went from prison inmate to chaplain of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department jails for three years. Lawson’s office was located in the famous Jack Ruby's “old death row cell,” under then-Sheriff Carl Thomas. (Ruby shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald.)
For 28 years, Lawson has served as the minister of the Main Street Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas. The congregation is located in the inner city of Dallas, where they feed the poor and homeless. He also established a worldwide radio program to broadcast their Sunday worship services and various Bible training classes.
Lawson recently retired as the preaching minister of the congregation. He has handed over his eight one-hour national broadcasts to William Ralston, the new minister of the Dallas congregation. However, Lawson continues a busy schedule. He prepares and preaches 18 one-hour worldwide evangelistic broadcasts each week.
Since retirement, Lawson travels and instructs congregations on how to better serve the poor and homeless. Additionally, he teaches congregations how to set up evangelistic websites. Further, he teaches how to broadcast worship services through radio, locally and internationally, for preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
"You don't have to reinvent the wheel,” Lawson said. “We've made all the mistakes for you long ago, and all I have to give you is free experience.”

Mr. Faull continued to be impressed and testified many times to others on the conversion that took place with Mr. Lawson and how he turned his life, like the apostle Paul, to being a great testifier, promoter, and witness for the cause of Christ. Mr. Faull loved to hear how Mr. Lawson had set up a website that so many would visit, as well as a radio program that reached across the world so they could hear the Gospel message.
“George loved Kelly’s talks with him on the phone giving updates on how he was helping feed the poor in the community and delivering the message of God in hopes they would obey the Gospel. Mr. Faull truly enjoyed going to Mr. Lawson’s website, hearing the messages preached, but just as enjoyable to him were the great old-time hymns being sung a cappella style and would loudly sing along, as well. Mr. Faull was so proud of the work Mr. Lawson was doing to obey the great commission by teaching God’s word to God’s world.”
Brother Paul, a retired attorney, is the Main Street Church of Christ missionary who is accompanying Lawson on their "United States Missionary Journey.”
Brother Paul has been a foreign missionary since 1982. His missionary journeys have taken him to India, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania and the Czech Republic; southeast Asia, including Cambodia and Thailand, and to Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi while carrying the gospel to Africa.
He has participated in medical mission trips to the Caribbean islands of St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenada and mission trips to Brazil, Honduras and Guatemala. Currently, he is raising funds to feed widows and poor people in India who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
