The Build a Better World Summer Reading Program is under way at the Greenfield Library.
Patrons of all ages are encouraged to sign up so you can begin to read great books, attend awesome programs and win super prizes.
We will be hosting an ASL Play Group every Thursday in June and July at 10:30 a.m. This group is for children who are 6-18 months old.
Following the play group, we will have a Signing Class at 11 a.m. for preschoolers from 2-5 years old. Both groups will be facilitated by Molly Jordan.
There will be no story times in June, July and August. Instead, we will be presenting special summer reading theme-related programs for kids of all ages each week.
The programs in June start on Thursday, June 1 with “Story Stew” presented by the Cooking Caravan at 12:30 p.m. Part rebus story, part madlib, part "Choose Your Own Adventure," this ridiculous journey teaches participants the essential elements of a story through the use of an enormous and ever-changing "book."
Ronald McDonald will join us on Thursday, June 8 at 12:30 p.m. to present a special program for our summer readers.
On Tuesday, June 13, Rick Schluep will present the program “Build a Better World with Compassion” at 11 a.m. We want our summer readers to step into the shoes of children throughout the world during this hands-on, interactive program.
The Wonderful World of Birds will be our program on Tuesday, June 20 at 11 a.m. Join us as a member of the Highland County Nature Sanctuary teaches us about Ohio birds and their nesting habits. After the presentation, family groups will be able to build a bird feeder together.
On Thursday, June 27, we will host our We Love Homer Day at 11 a.m. Come and learn about being a good citizen from Homer and his friend, Amy Sharp Schneider. Have your picture taken with Homer.
For our 5th-8th graders, we will hold two “Discovery Days” on Wednesdays, June 7 and 14. Investigate the inner workings of small appliances and electronics. This hands-on activity will be supervised by a team of adults.
We also want to encourage our teens to stop in to talk with us and share ideas for improving our teen services here at the Greenfield Branch. Would you like to be able to attend a book discussion group? Would you like us to host a games group? Come in and talk with us.
