Greenfield Historical Society announces program for annual Spring Tea

The Greenfield Historical Society will hold its annual Spring Tea April 26 at 2 p.m. in the Konneker Education at 245 South Street in Greenfield.

Miss Grace Blake will be the hosting character. Miss Blake, being a longtime Greenfield teacher, was chosen to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of McClain High School.

Grace Blake was a McClain teacher from 1924-1962. For 30 of those years, she was the yearbook and Dragon newspaper adviser. Her students earned many journalism awards over the years for their exceptional work.

She worked with Frank Raymond Harris, the McClain principal, during her early career. She also knew Edward L. McClain and remembers well the day Mr. McClain died and his funeral and memorial service.

Elaine VanZant will be portraying Miss Blake for the tea and in addition to sharing facts about Miss Blake’s life, the program will also focus on the new high school and the passing of Mr. McClain.

Refreshments will include finger foods, tea, coffee and water.

Pre-sale tickets are on sale for $10 at the Community Savings Bank in Greenfield. Tickets may be purchased at the door, but seating is limited.
