Goat sired in Hillsboro nominated for Show Goat of The Year Award

Rock Cliff Acres Show Goats can be found on SR 138 in Hillsboro, where it is owned and operated by Jeff Burnett and Amy St Clair. The past year and a half has been full of much-deserved success for the RCA team: state banners, national titles and even a Man of The Year nomination for the buck they raised called “WhiteClaw.” It is once again time for the End of the Year Awards voting for the livestock industry, with one of the categories being “Show Goat of The Year,” and RCA Show Goats have found their operation mixed into the excitement once again.
Goats that have found extreme success throughout the country during the year are nominated, and the top five become nominees. The goats which become nominees are among the best of the best and have all won prestigious titles. To be the breeder of a goat of such success is already an honor, but to have an animal become a nominee for Show Goat of The Year is an incredible feat.
Burnett and St Clair are feeling this sense of accomplishment as they raised the Grand Champion Market Goat at the 2022 National Western Stock Show held in Denver, Colo. this January. The goat was shown by the Allen family from Oklahoma and was sired by RCA’s very own “WhiteClaw.”
The entire team and everyone involved is extremely humbled and excited for Burnett and St Clair to receive such recognition.
“I remember the day that goat won the NWSS. I got a call from a friend saying Amy’s goat had won, and I was in shock,” said Chandra Hill, showman for RCA and family friend. “I knew how good the goat was but I was still speechless. The past few months had already been full of success for the RCA team but to grab a title as big as that one was crazy.
“I called Amy and was the one to break the good news to her, and I remember she was in disbelief and we both began to cry. Amy is so passionate about RCA and the goats she is raising. I’ve been lucky enough for Amy to take me under her wing the past couple years and to learn from someone such as herself not only within the stock show industry, but also outside of it, has been nothing short of an incredible blessing. Nobody deserves this more than RCA, and it’s really cool to see this come full circle with this goat's national nomination to possibly earn the title of Show Goat of The Year.”
Charles Phillips has shown for RCA the past several years. He said, “You don't expect a goat bred and born in a small town like Hillsboro, Ohio, to a smaller operation like RCA, to reach such a high level of success. To me, it shows you can do anything you put your mind to and place hard work and passion behind.”
Success of any kind in the livestock industry requires sacrifice and diligence. Burnett and St Clair have shown this time and time again while chasing this type of high success.
Everyone that is part of RCA feels the pride of this nomination: showmen, family members and customers. The Johnson family have become RCA customers in recent years and are starting their adventure into the livestock industry.
“Jeff and Amy have been such a huge blessing to our family with getting our kiddos on the right track in the show world,” said RCA customer Jess Johnson. “Jeff and Amy give RCA their all, from the encouragement, love and support that is shown to their showmen to the dedication and hard work given to their animals. The heart and passion they have for their RCA team is something amazing. They are two wonderful people who are very deserving of this. My husband and I are extremely thankful to have our children part of RCA Show Goats.”
When asked about what this nomination means to them, Burnett and St Clair said, “Our nomination has filled us with a strong sense of pride. We are very honored to have Sayde Allen and her family representing our livestock. We greatly appreciate the time and effort of Cooper Bounds and Caleb Boden for placing our goat in the hands of such a devoted family.
