Girl Scout Troop 321 members earn Mariner pin

Highland County Girl Scout Troop 321 on Sept. 11 joined up with four members of the Rocky Fork Sailboat Club to earn their Mariner pin.
All the members of the troop are seniors this year, and most of them were Girls Scouts since kindergarten.
Pete and Lin Klein of Hillsboro, along with Larry and Sue Hess of Huber Heights, as members of the club, took their time to help the girls meet the requirements of the Mariner pin.
Knot tying, navigation, parts of the watercraft/sailboat, safety, along with real sailing time on the lake were part of the requirements.
Sue Hess was a Girl Scout Mariner as a young girl on the East Coast, (seen in the photo). The Hesses donated all the teaching materials for the event. It was a beautiful day, and the entire troop of seven high school seniors participated. The final step for the pin, some completed that day by treading in water, fully clothed with shoes, then swimming back to boat ladder.
Troop 321 would like to say thank you to the Kleins and Hesses for all their prep time, time teaching them and the kindness they showed them during the day at Rocky Fork.
