Gary Furnish new Tea Party president

At the Jan. 18 meeting, the Highland County Tea Party elected Gary Furnish as president for the next year.

In his acceptance remarks, Furnish said that the country needs an old-fashioned revival of patriotism and a renewed commitment to conservatism and to the Constitution of the United States.

Furnish encouraged members to reach out and let friends and family members know that the Highland County Tea Party is alive and well. He also said that the organization is looking forward to recruiting new members who want to see the country get back on a positive track.

Furnish brings a wealth of management experience to his new position.

Most of his career was spent as a contract manager in the healthcare industry. He also held the position of director of human resources for two manufacturing companies. Furnish and his wife, Bonnie, started, owned and operated two child daycare centers and preschools with 100 children enrolled in each.

He was also president of Furnish & Associates, Inc., where he provided management consulting services to manufacturing companies in Ohio.

Furnish, the son of the late longtime community leaders William “Bill” and Zelma Furnish, attended Morehead State University, Bethany Bible College and Bethany Theological Seminary. He has a bachelor of applied science degree, a master of religious education degree and a doctor of religious education degree.

Furnish was on the staff of New Testament Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Fla. as staff evangelist and outreach director. He was interim pastor of Faith Baptist Church in North Fort Myers, Fla. for five years and today works as an evangelist.

Furnish said that he hopes that all Constitution-loving, conservative patriots will come and be a part of an excited group of legal citizens looking forward to making a difference in the community.

The next Highland County Tea Party meeting will be held Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Hi-TEC building, located at 1575 North High Street in Hillsboro.
