Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound lists available dogs and puppies as of Sept. 15

The Highland County Dog Pound has the following dogs available for adoption or rescue pulls as of Sept. 15, listed courtesy of the Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound.

(1) Brownie: Brownie is a beagle mix who weighs around 30 lbs. She is less than a year old, most likely 6 months or so. Brownie was adopted from us then surrendered back due to the owner said he could not get her potty trained. Brownie is very sweet and does well with other dogs.

(2) Lucas: Lucas is a Great Dane who weighs 120 lbs. He is approximately 6-8 years old. Lucas is very sweet with people, however he did not like to be put back into a kennel. He did grab onto a worker's arm and start growling when he first arrived when she was trying to put him into the kennel after his outside time. He did not apply enough pressure to break skin though. Due to his size, he cannot stay in our kennels for an extended period of time. Aside from the kennel issue he is a very good boy. He did very well when he got his first bath with us. He stood like a champ. A rescue that can accommodate him and help him get to know that he is a safe fellow would be a blessing for all.

(3) Timber: Timber is a hound mix male who is around 2 years old and weighs 35 lbs. Timber is very sweet and gentle. He is also shy when meeting new people. Timber seems to be fine with other dogs. 

(4) Chance: Formerly named Bear, we have renamed him Chance. We want him to have a second chance at happiness. Chance has been an outside dog for at least 2 years, having nothing but a dog box and some food every now and again from neighbors. Chance's previous owners lived in a tent and had to go away for some time all while the nice neighbors made sure Chance would survive. Chance was found running at large in which the owner never came to claim him. He weighs around 55 lbs and is 3-4 years old. 

(5) Ozzy: Ozzy is a pit bull type dog who weighs 53 lbs. He is around 7 years old. Ozzy came to us in a not-so-great condition. He was very skinny, and he has some hair loss on his back end. Right before we found Ozzy, a roadworker saved him from getting hit by a truck who had no intentions on stopping for Ozzy to move. Despite his past, he is one of the sweetest dogs we have, very gentle and all-around good boy. Ozzy seems to do well with other dogs. We really don't think Ozzy has a mean bone in his body. Ozzy loves toys, chew bones and big beds with blankets. Ozzy also may be crate trained or even house trained as he does not potty in his kennel at all. Sweet boy.

(6) Tiger: Tiger is a mixed breed. He is around 5 years old, weighing 36 lbs. Tiger has been good with other dogs here.

(7) Baby Girl: "Baby" is a shepherd and husky mix who is around 3 yrs old and weighs 50 lbs. Baby is so, so sweet. She loves everyone. She is good with other dogs. She is always happy and ready for an adventure.

(8) Ninja Turtle: Ninja is a mixed breed who weighs around 50 lbs. and is about 2-3 years old. Ninja would be OK with dogs that are his size, but no cats or small dogs. He is friendly with all people and loves toys. 

(9) Chopper: Chopper is a pit bull mix who is 2-3 years old and weighs around 55-60 lbs. He is very friendly and seems to be good with other dogs. 

(10) Ruffis: Ruffis is a pit bull mix who is around 1-2 years old and weighs 45 lbs. He came to us as a stray with Drako. He is good with other dogs and very friendly with people.

(11) Batman & Robin: Batman & Robin are mixed breeds suspected to be on the smaller side. They are around 5-6 months old and weigh 12-15 lbs. 

   We would be pleased to answer any questions you may have about these wonderful dogs.

At this time, pull fees are being covered for all pulled dogs by donations from Friends Of The Highland County Dog Pound:

• $10 per adult, $20 per litter. $5 vaccine charge for each dog.
• Pull fees MUST be paid before transport or the dog will not be sent.
• Please PayPal pull fees to highlandcodogpound@gmail.com.
• Please PayPal vaccine fees to: poundpals@yahoo.com.

Vetting:
• We can take dogs to the vet as long as a credit card has been called in. If you would like us to vet a dog, please contact for further information.
• Heartworm tests can be done if asked for, but we must have rescue commitment before hand, and credit card has been called in as above for general vetting.
• Dogs are vaccinated for parvo and distemper upon intake and boosted.

We do our best to test the dogs in our care and learn all we can about them, but cannot guarantee temperament or health. Many of the dogs we have came in as strays with unknown histories.
