The Highland County Dog Pound has the following dogs available for adoption or rescue pulls as of Oct. 21, listed courtesy of the Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound.

Transport date is Oct. 24.

(1) Ghost: Ghost came to us as a stray. He is 1-2 years old and weighs 42 lbs. Ghost has been fine with other dogs as he is actually in a kennel with one due to our lack of space. We're not sure of his breed but maybe some Great Dane. A very friendly guy. He can walk well on lead and he knows "SIT" and will do so when you stop.

(2) Sadie: Sadie is a beagle girl. She weighs around 30 lbs., is 5 years old, SPAYED, rabies vaccinated, good with other dogs, cats, and children. The people had too many dogs so they surrendered her to us. She is very sweet. Precious.

(3) Bonnie: Bonnie is a pit mix around 2 years old and weighs around 40 lbs. We got her as a stray who had six puppies. She is a pretty sweet girl who loves outside time. She has been fine with other dogs.

Wednesday, Blade, Oatis

(4) Wednesday: She is a pit mix around 3 years old who weighs around 55 lbs. She was found as a stray. While waiting for a kennel to open up with us, she was at a home that had cats and chickens, and she did great with them. She has been good with other dogs as well. We have been so overwhelmed here that we didn't have a chance to take more photos yet, but we can send some to you, just tell us you are interested in helping her find a great home.

(5) Blade: Blade is a pit mix weighing around 50 lbs. He was found as a stray dumped at a local state park. He was very scared and would not let anyone get within five feet of him, although you could tell he wanted to be helped. We set a live trap and walked away enough to where we could see him and he went right in. Blade has started to shine since he has been here and now loves everyone he meets. Blade has been fine around other dogs here.

(6) Oatis: Oatis is a sweet mix who is approximately 2-3 years old and he weighs 42 pounds. He seems to do fine with other dogs as he does not really pay attention to them. Intake date: 8/16/23. Please help Oatis find a home; he has been here too long.

(7) Jasmine: Jasmine is a boxer mix who is around 4 years old and weighs 41 lbs. Jasmine seems to be fine with other dogs here at the pound. She seems like she just would love to play. Jasmine gets very excited to see people when they walk past her kennel. She is an absolute doll baby. Intake date: 4/29/24.

(8) Zeppelin: Zeppelin is estimated to be 1-2 years old. He weighs 58 lbs. He loves to play with other dogs and has a ton of energy. He is a good boy. Intake date: 1/29/24.

(9) Flopsy: Flopsy is a beautiful pit girl who is 2-3 years old and weighs 55 lbs. Flopsy got her name because when you go to pet her, she flops on the ground wanting all the belly rubs you will give her. She loves people and has a very loving personality. This sweet girl has never shown any type of aggression, and she seems to be OK with other dogs. Intake date: 3/8/24.

(10) Milo: Milo is a husky that is estimated to be around 3-4 years old. He weighs 44 lbs. He does great with other dogs. He is a very sweet boy and seems to learn very quickly as he loves to be told that he has been a good boy. Intake date: 1/29/24.

(11) Hank: Hank was owner surrendered, and we think he is a boxer mix and he weighs 78 lbs. and he is 8-9 years old. He is very loving to people, but he is not good with SMALL dogs. With larger dogs he would be fine. Intake date: 8/2/23.

L-r: Benni, Rose, Target.

(13) Benni: Benni came to us as a stray who we had to live trap. He is around 1-2 years old and only weighs 30 lbs. He is very friendly and will try to curl up next to you or try to climb on your lap. He can be scared and acts like his previous owners may not have been so nice. Please help Benni out so he can see there are nice humans out there.

(14) Rose: We think Rose may be a sister to Benni as they came from within one mile from each other. Rose is also around 1-2 years old and only weighs 23 lbs! She is also friendly once she gets to know you.

(15) Target: If you have been a long time follower with us you might have seen Target a couple of times before. Target is such a good dog and is looking for his forever home. He has been through so much and still continues to be amazing. He is still fine with other dogs. He has been in and out of the shelter through no fault of his own at all, only poor owners. If you can help one dog, PLEASE think about Target.

Butch

(16) Butch: Butch is a Boxer mix weighing around 60-70 lbs. He was found as a stray who had been running our town for months. He wouldn't come to anyone except for an older couple who gained his trust. Butch is a nice dog who knows the meaning of sit and shake. He has been OK with other dogs here at the dog pound.

(19) Howie: Howie is a handsome hound who arrived as a stray. He is around 3 years old, and he weighs 52 pounds. He is timid of people, presumably from his previous contact with humans, but he is calming and becoming more confident each day. Lead walking and sitting and petting have helped him be less standoffish. He is not aggressive at all. He is a good-looking fellow. He will be someone's best friend.

(29) Roxanne: Roxanne, aka Roxy, is a 20 lb., 5-6 month old female mixed breed. She has been fostered with three dogs and many cats. She was quick to learn 'in', 'out', 'no' and as a puppy is still learning to walk on leash. She is eager to learn and would be a good dog for a family. Cute, sweet girl.
