The Highland County Dog Pound has the following dogs available for adoption or rescue pulls as of Nov. 25, listed courtesy of the Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound.

Transport date is Nov. 26.

Please help a dog if you can. The pound is overfull.

(1) Ghost: Ghost came to us as a stray. He is 1-2 years old and weighs 42 lbs. Ghost has been fine with other dogs as he is actually in a kennel with one due to our lack of space. We're not sure of his breed but maybe some Great Dane. A very friendly guy. He can walk well on lead and he knows "SIT" and will do so when you stop. Good obedience potential. Very nice boy.

(2) Bonnie: Bonnie is a pit mix around 2 years old and weighs around 40 lbs. We got her as a stray who had six puppies. She is a pretty sweet girl who loves outside time. She has been fine with other dogs.

Wednesday, Blade, Oatis

(3) Wednesday: She is a pit mix around 3 years old who weighs around 55 lbs. She was found as a stray. While waiting for a kennel to open up with us, she was at a home that had cats and chickens, and she did great with them. She has been good with other dogs as well.

(4) Blade: Blade is a pit mix weighing around 50 lbs. He was found as a stray dumped at a local state park. He was very scared and would not let anyone get within five feet of him, although you could tell he wanted to be helped. We set a live trap and walked away enough to where we could see him and he went right in. Blade has started to shine since he has been here and now loves everyone he meets. Blade has been fine around other dogs here.

(5) Oatis: Oatis is a sweet brindle mix who is approximately 2-3 years old, and he weighs 42 pounds. He is neutered. He seems to do fine with other dogs as he does not really pay attention to them. He is energetic and enjoys running. Please help Oatis find a home; he has been here too long.

Jasmine, Zeppelin, Flopsy

 (6) Jasmine: Jasmine is a boxer mix who is around 4 years old and weighs 41 lbs. Jasmine seems to be fine with other dogs here at the pound. She seems like she just would love to play. Jasmine gets very excited to see people when they walk past her kennel. She is an absolute doll baby. Intake date: 4/29/24.

(7) Zeppelin: Zeppelin is estimated to be 1-2 years old. He weighs 58 lbs. He loves to play with other dogs and has a ton of energy. He is a good boy. Intake date: 1/29/24.

(8) Flopsy: Flopsy is a beautiful pit girl who is 2-3 years old and weighs 55 lbs. Flopsy got her name because when you go to pet her, she flops on the ground wanting all the belly rubs you will give her. She loves people and has a very loving personality. This sweet girl has never shown any type of aggression, and she seems to be OK with other dogs. Intake date: 3/8/24.

(9) Freddy: Freddy came to us as an owner surrender. His is labeled as a Pointer mix. He is about a year old and weighs in at 50I lbs. He is said to be potty trained, great with small and big dogs and good with children. Freddy is also neutered and has been in obedience training. He knows sit and shake. He is very sweet and gentle.

(10) Misty: Misty has been with us before and was adopted. She has been surrendered due to no fault of her own, just the owner started a new job and it’s taking too much of his time. She has had one litter of pups. One pup is here with her (Boots), and the pound is currently waiting for space to get the other two male pups in. She is an Australian shepherd mix, around 2 years old and around 40 lbs.

(11) Tiger: Tiger is a mixed breed weighing 38 lbs. and around 1-2 years old. Tiger is a sweetheart and may not do well if he was the only dog because he likes dog friends.

(12) Benni: Benni came to us as a stray who we had to live trap. He is around 1-2 years old and only weighs 30 lbs. He is very friendly and will try to curl up next to you or try to climb on your lap. He can be scared and acts like his previous owners may not have been so nice. Please help Benni out so he can see there are nice humans out there.

(13) Boots: Boots came in as a surrender along with her mom (Misty). Boots is 5 months old and weighs around 30 lbs. She is an Australian Shepherd mix.

(14) Target: If you have been a long time follower with us you might have seen Target a couple of times before. Target is such a good dog and is looking for his forever home. He has been through so much and still continues to be amazing. He is still fine with other dogs. He has been in and out of the shelter through no fault of his own at all, only poor owners. If you can help one dog, PLEASE think about Target.

(15) Butch: Butch is a Boxer mix weighing around 60-70 lbs. He was found as a stray who had been running our town for months. He wouldn't come to anyone except for an older couple who gained his trust. Butch is a nice dog who knows the meaning of sit and shake. He has been OK with other dogs here at the dog pound. Good boy.

(18) Howie: Howie is a handsome hound who arrived as a stray. He is around 3 years old, and he weighs 52 pounds. He is timid of people, presumably from his previous contact with humans, but he is calming and becoming more confident each day. Lead walking and sitting and petting have helped him be less standoffish. He is not aggressive at all. He is a good-looking fellow. He will be someone's best friend.

He is around 2-3 years old and weighs a whopping 70 lbs. Happy Feet has been around other dogs here at the pound and seems to be fine with them. He doesn't really pay any attention to them. Intake date: 5/13/24.

(24) Scooby: Scooby is a mixed breed boy who weighs 68 lbs. Scooby is an owner surrender who is 3 years old and he is neutered. His previous owner says he has never been around cats. He has been around kids and would prefer older children. He has also been around dogs and would prefer medium-large dogs. Scooby has lost a LOT of weight, and his mental and physical health are declining because of stress of being at the dog pound. If he is not pulled soon, we will have to euthanize as he is rapidly declining. Intake date: 1/8/24.
