A local shop is celebrating five years in downtown Greenfield, and on Tuesday, that milestone was recognized by the village.

Black Cat Tattoo and Boo-tique is at 346 Jefferson St. That’s the spot owner Krista Kerr has occupied since she returned to Greenfield.

Kerr, a 1985 graduate of McClain High School, has been tattooing for about 30 years. After high school Kerr went to college in Kentucky and then moved to Florida, where she began the art of tattooing. And for the last few years she’s been sharing those skills with her hometown.

The shop isn’t just a place to get inked, but also a place to check out lots of locally-made items – like shirts, bags, jewelry, to name a few – in the boutique, or “boo-tique,” a term that aptly describes the fun and Halloween-esque theme prevalent in the store.

Joining in Tuesday’s recognition were city manager Todd Wilkin, council chair Phil Clyburn, village offices manager Sherry Parker, and economic development coordinator Susan Howland. Kerr was presented a plaque to commemorate the shop’s milestone, as well as a goody bag.

“Five years is a big milestone, and we are happy to be a part of celebrating it,” Wilkin said Tuesday, adding that the village appreciates the businesses that call Greenfield home.
