Hillsboro Emblem Club members enjoyed their annual Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. Dinner was prepared by Elinor Cornelius, Sandra Martin, and Emilie Dunnagan. Dessert was provided by Mystic Retreat from Bainbridge and consisted of their fabulous cheesecake. Community service projects consisted of purchasing Christmas gifts for 14 residents of Heartland, bringing in 31 stuffed animals and toys to be donated to the Highland District Hospital Surgery Department, purchasing household supplies and distributing them to residents of the Grace House, and over 1,000 cosmetics, perfumes, and personal items received by a member were donated to the VA, Homeless Shelter, Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center, Heartland, Crestwood, and The Laurels.
The Americanism chairman read an article entitled "What the Flag Means" and she sent several Christmas cards to servicemen overseas. Manufactured coupons were also sent to servicemen and women overseas.
The members signed Christmas cards to be sent to members that are unable to attend monthly meetings. A gift exchange was held after the meeting.
The next regular meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge. Members are asked to bring in two items to be packaged and sent overseas to one of our local servicemen. Members continue to work the refreshment stand at Bingo, held every Monday night at 7 p.m.
