Daughters of the American Revolution hear ‘Name the Baby’ program at December meeting

After the opening ceremony and a delicious carry-in luncheon, the December meeting of Waw-wil-a-way chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution were treated to an interesting program on “Name the Baby.”
Kathy Dixon, OSDAR State Vice Regent, presented the program. Early settlers normally used Biblical names for children. As time went on, names changed for various reasons. Middle names were important to distinguish between people with the same first name. As any genealogist can attest, it makes it difficult to determine which person is which, as names were used many times in a family as generations went on.

Committee reports were given, and the yearly reports are being submitted to Regent Hannah Rach for inclusion in the NSDAR yearly chapter report. Delegates were chosen for the OSDAR meeting March 23-26 at the Columbus Airport Marriott Hotel.

Charlene Tarr reported on the JAC and their community activities. Quilts have been sent to the Georgetown Veterans Home to be included in packets for new patients. Tarr also works with the veterans and Honor Guard, who will be laying a wreath on Dec. 10 at the Veterans’ Memorial in uptown Hillsboro.
