DAR Waw-wil-a-way Chapter tours McClain High School

In August, the Waw-wil-a-way Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution toured the Ohio Historical Society landmark, McClain High School.
Cathy Daniels Rivas, a very knowledgeable elementary art teacher, presented interesting information on the beautiful building and its artifacts. A gift of Edward Lee McClain and constructed in 1914, the building is one-of-a-kind with approximately 200 paintings, murals, statues and other forms of art. The building was remodeled in later years to preserve its beauty and bring it up to modern standards.

The beautiful stained glass windows were also viewed at the Greenfield United Methodist Church, where the McClains were members. A short business meeting was held in the basement with Judy Hornsby and Tonia Edwards providing refreshments.
Members are active in the community supporting military veteran activities by participating in the Flag Day Ceremony at the VFW, thanking veterans and providing bottled water for the reception for Lt. Col. Harry Shoop, as he received WWII medals. Charleene Tarr accompanies the Honor Guard to military funerals presenting angels, made from the rifle shells, to the family.
Schools will be presented with summaries of constitutional amendments for Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23.
