DAR presents Youth Citizenship Awards

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Waw-wil-a-way Chapter held their annual Youth Citizenship Awards luncheon on Saturday, April 9 at the Highland House Museum in Hillsboro.
Students were awarded a certificate and medal proclaiming them examples of good citizenship. The students introduced their family members and shared information about themselves and their beliefs of what makes a good citizen.
The Good Citizenship Award is given by the National Defense Committee. Each year, teachers of fifth-grade students in the Highland County school districts are asked to nominate a student who exemplifies the characteristics of a good citizen which are dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Junior American Citizens Committee (JAC) clubs are available for all of America's students. The origins of the JAC can be traced to October 1901, when the Cincinnati Chapter DAR in Ohio organized a club “to teach … children some knowledge of the underlying principles of our government, of American sentiment, and of all that will go toward making them good citizens.”
Today, through JAC clubs and contests, the DAR offers a direct service to every child in the United States by promoting good citizenship. If you are interested in joining the JAC as a member or senior leader, please contact Charleene Tarr at 937-760-0229.
