Greenfield special election set for July 15
    A special election for Greenfield voters will be held July 15.
    Voters will decide on whether to maintain the current form of
government.

Peace Lutheran Church events
    The members of Peace Lutheran Church, 321 Harry Sauner Road, Hillsboro,
are continuing their tradition of Weenie Wednesday after the free movies at
Star Cinemas. Both youth and adults are invited to enjoy the activities
beginning at 11:30 a.m., which will include the meal, simple crafts and face
painting.
    The other tradition of the rummage sale at the church will be held May
31 and June 1. On June 1, grocery bags of selections will sell for $2 for
everything in the bag. The earnings from this sale are divided to be given
to area nonprofits.
    Peace Lutheran Church has been in existence for 45 years at different
locations in Hillsboro, but they are recognized in their present location,
321 Harry Sauner Road, for their open doors for various recovery programs
in the community. Those open doors were a blessing for the residents and
staff of Trustwell Living at Bell Gardens Place during the recent fire at
the assisted living facility. 

Mowrystown VBS
    The Mowrystown Community Vacation Bible School will be June 3-7 from 9
a.m.-noon. The opening session will begin at the Church of Christ community
center. Preregistration is available online.
    This year's theme is "SCUBA." Come in and "dive" into the fun.

Sinking Spring School alumni
    The annual Sinking Spring School alumni celebration will be Saturday,
June 8. All graduates, attending students, former teachers, cafeteria
workers, custodians, bus drivers and anyone else who contributed to the
outstanding education students received at their beloved school are invited
to attend.
    The social hour is from 4-6 p.m. Dinner will be a catered buffet served
at 6:30 p.m.
    The cost of the meal will be $12 per person, and reservations may be
sent to Nina Couser, 2479 state Route 41, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 or to
the Sinking Spring Alumni Association, Box 5, Sinking Spring 45172.
    Reservations need to be sent in by June 6. Please call Couser at (937)
588-3484 and leave a message if you are running late.

Lynchburg-Clay 
Alumni Banquet June 8
    The Lynchburg and Lynchburg-Clay Alumni Association will hold its Alumni
Banquet on Saturday evening, June 8, at the Lynchburg-Clay Elementary
School. The meal will be served at 6:30 p.m., but a time for touring the
buildings and athletic facilities, reviewing school history, and socializing
will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
    All Lynchburg H.S. and Lynchburg-Clay H.S. graduates and former students
are invited. The cost is $25 per person and will feature a catered meal and
an outstanding evening of entertainment and reminiscing.

Coach Veidt hosts
baseball camp June 3-6
    Commitment Baseball School with Hall of Fame Coach Chris Veidt will be
offered at Hillsboro's Shaffer Park, June 3-6 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. daily. The
camp is open to boys and girls ages 6-14 and is designed to provide each
camper with the fundamentals of hitting, pitching, catching, base running
and defense.
    Preregistration is $75 ($50 for each additional sibling) or $125 on
site. Registration forms can be downloaded at

SOESC Board
to meet June 25
    The Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board hereby
gives notice that it will hold a public meeting pursuant to the provisions
of R.C. 3307.353 to consider the re-employment of Linda Mead, as a
superannuate to the same position from which she previously retired. The
public meeting will occur June 25 at 7 p.m. at Southern Ohio Educational
Service Center, 3321 Airborne Road, Wilmington.  

HCCAO golf outing Aug. 16
    The Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. will host their
18th annual golf outing on Friday, Aug. 16 at Buckeye Hills Country Club
located at 7261 Limes Road in Greenfield. Registration will open at 8 a.m.
They are just beginning to take reservations for teams and hole sponsors,
and there are plenty of opportunities for businesses to be represented at
the event as an event sponsor, corporate sponsor, team, hole or prize
sponsor.
    Shotgun scramble time is 9 a.m. Registration fees include the greens fee
for 18 holes of golf on the beautiful course, a cart and a lunch provided by
All Seasons Catering. Prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place
teams and most honest. Great door prizes are also going to be given away.
    Golfers who participate will also gain the satisfaction of knowing all
proceeds go back to the organization to help support those being served in
Highland County.

AmVets Post 61 events
    AmVets Post 61, located at Rocky Fork Lake, has announced the following
upcoming events:
    • Bingo on Thursday evenings;
    • Weekend breakfasts this summer;
    • Cookouts (steaks and pork chops) all summer; and
    • Various bands and entertainers this summer.
    A car show honoring POW/MIA soldiers will be held Aug. 10.

HCCAO Board meetings
    The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2024 on the following dates: June 25, July 23, Aug. 27, Sept. 24,
Oct. 22, Nov. 26 and Dec. 24.

Brushcreek Township
Trustees' meetings
    The Board of Brushcreek Township Trustees, Highland County, will hold
their public meetings on the first and third Monday of each month for the
entirety of the year 2024. Meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Brushcreek
Township Fire Department, 7 N. Chestnut St., Sinking Spring.

HDH Board of
Governors meetings
    The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will meet in 2024 on
the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in the
Education Room, located on the first floor at Highland District Hospital.
Meeting schedules for specific committees can be obtained by contacting

Hillsboro meetings
The City of Hillsboro has released the following revised 2024 meeting
schedule.
    • City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: June 13,
July 11, Aug. 15, Sept. 12, Oct. 17, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
    • Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: June 17, July 15,
Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.
    • The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
at 130 North High St. Scheduled dates are: Aug. 21 and Nov. 20.
    • The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates are: June
12, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.

Senior food donations
    The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

Lynchburg Historical Society
    The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.

New Life Church & Ministries
food giveaway
    New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
