Hillsboro Garden Club
to meet March 26
    The next meeting of the Hillsboro Garden Club will be Tuesday, March 26
at 6:30 p.m. in the Floral Hall at the Highland County Fairgrounds. The
public is invited to attend.

Hillsboro Church of
the Nazarene
Easter egg hunt 
    Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene will host an Easter egg hunt Saturday,
March 23 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Crossroads Park in Hillsboro (green space on
West Main Street). The egg hunt will feature 15,000 eggs this year. There
will also be bounce houses, food, balloons and more. The community is
invited to come out and enjoy this free event.

'Goofy Golf'
outing April 28
    The SAR Highlanders Chapter is sponsoring the annual ³Goofy Golf²
Tournament Sunday, April 28 at the Hillsboro Elks 361 Golf Course. The event
is open to the public, especially anybody who hasn't played golf before or
hasn't played in years. Registration begins at noon, followed by tee-off at
1 p.m.
    The fee is $35 per person, with proceeds benefiting the planned
Revolutionary War monuments at the Highland County Courthouse. Hole
sponsorships are available for $50.
    If you say you can't golf, then you are the perfect golfer for this
match. If you have never played golf or haven't for a while, this is the
time to come out. The only rules are that 1) there are no rules and 2) refer
to the first rule.
    Snacks will be provided, and there will be door prizes and raffles. A
beans and cornbread cook-off contest, a 50/50 raffle and a goofiest dressed
contest will also be held.

Hillsboro Freewill 
Baptist Church
Easter egg hunt
    Hillsboro Freewill Baptist Church, 6360 U.S. Route 50, will be hosting
an Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 23 from noon-1:30 p.m. for children aged
toddlers (walking) to 12 years old. Lunch will be served. Everyone is
welcome.
• The church also will be holding a spring revival March 25-27 at 7 p.m.
nightly. Garrett Fitch will be preaching and singing, along with his wife,
Kailee. All are welcome.

Knights of Pythias 
Lodge Easter egg hunt
    Knights of Pythias Lodge 696 will host an Easter egg hunt March 23 at
1879 state Route 73 in Belfast from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
    The event will include egg hunts for the following age groups: 0-3, 4-8
and 9-12. There will also be a 50-50 drawing. A membership drive will take
place from noon-1 p.m.

GOP Women's Club
offers scholarships
    The Highland County Republican Women's Club will be awarding $500
scholarships to five graduating high school students residing in Highland
County. The scholarships are awarded in memory of Kay Ayres and Margaret
VanFrank for their leadership roles in the Republican Party.  
    Applications have been provided to the guidance counselors in each of
the county schools. Students can contact their counselors to get an
application, complete it and mail it in by March 30.    
    Winners will be announced in late April.   

SATH Celebrity Golf
Classic April 29 at SHCC
    SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) will be hosting the
32nd annual Celebrity Golf Classic Monday, April 29 at Snow Hill Country
Club in New Vienna. John and Andrea Holt of the Hillsboro Ponderosa
Steakhouse are proud to be sponsoring this event again this year.
    The tournament will consist of 25 foursomes and one celebrity on each
team. The cost will be $200 per player or $800 per team. Individual and team
sponsors are welcome. Each team will draw for their celebrity player at 9
a.m. the morning of the tournament. The shotgun start for the tournament is
set for 10 a.m.
    Prizes will be given for the top three place teams. Lunch will be
served, and Pepsi will be providing the drinks for the day. A sports
memorabilia auction will take place in the afternoon after the tournament.
We have some great autographed items from the Cincinnati Bengals, Ohio State
and the Cincinnati Reds. The public is welcome.
    SATH is in need of hole sponsors at $100 each. The sponsor is given the
sign autographed by each celebrity after the event.

Greenfield First 
Presbyterian Church
dinner March 24
    The Greenfield First Presbyterian Church will host a community dinner
Sunday, March 24 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
    The church is located at 457 Jefferson Street, Greenfield.
    The menu will include ham loaf, potato casserole, green beans/corn,
pasta salad, muffins, a variety of desserts, coffee, tea and lemonade.
Carryout will be available.
    Meals are offered for a suggested donation of $12. Children 6 and under
eat free. Everyone is welcome.

National Vietnam War
Veterans Day program
March 29 at FOE 1161
    A program commemorating National Vietnam War Veterans Day will be held
Friday, March 29 at noon at the Hillsboro Eagles Aerie 1161. Retired U.S.
Air Force Col. Ronald Sampson, a local Vietnam War veteran, will be one of
the guest speakers.
    The event is open to the public. Any Vietnam War veterans who wish to
bring memorabilia for display are welcome to do so. The "Fallen Sons of
Highland County" book and plaque memorializing those killed in the war will
also be on display at the Eagles.
    Following the program (weather permitting), those in attendance are
invited to walk over to the Veterans Memorial outside the Highland County
Courthouse, where the Highland County Honor Guard will perform a ceremony in
memory of the local soldiers killed during the Vietnam War.

Tree seedlings
available
    It's time to order your tree seedlings through the Highland Soil and
Water Conservation District's Annual Tree Seedling Sale.
    This year's sale will offer a variety of tree seedling packets on a
first-come, first-serve basis, so be sure to get your order in early. Order
forms can be downloaded from the Highland SWCD website at
www.highlandswcd.com or picked up at the Highland SWCD office located at 514
Harry Sauner Road, Ste. 2, in Hillsboro.

Fairfield open
enrollment meeting
    Parents of students who are interested in enrollment at Fairfield Local
Schools for the first time under the Open Enrollment policy for the
2024-25 school year are invited to attend an informal meeting to be
held Wednesday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the District Office Conference Room,
11611 S.R. 771, Leesburg. 
    The open enrollment policy will be explained, questions answered, and
applications will be available. Board policy establishes a limit for the
number of students enrolled in each grade level. Due to those limits and
current enrollment, some grade levels may have limited or no openings for
the 2024-25 school year.  
    Applications will be accepted through June 15, 2024.
    Attendance at this meeting is not required. Please contact Amy
Buddelmeyer at the District Office at (937) 780-2221 if you have any
questions or to request information. Parents of current open enrollment
students will receive an application via email or mail.

Hillsboro First 
Presbyterian Church
Easter egg hunt
    The Hillsboro First Presbyterian Church, located at 201 East Main St.,
will host an Easter egg hunt Sunday, March 24 at 11 a.m.
    Join the church on Palm Sunday after the 10 a.m. service for the Easter
egg hunt. The event is open to the public.

Cabin Fever Arts 
Festival April 6
    The Cabin Fever Arts Festival, hosted by the Appalachian Artisans Guild
with a grant from The Ohio Arts Council, will be held Saturday, April 6 from
10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Patriot Center on Southern State Community College's
central campus.  
    The festival will feature over 60 artists and crafters, live music all
day, and a food truck and coffee truck. Admission is free.

HCCAO Board meetings
    The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2024 on the following dates: March 26, April 23, May 28, June 25,
July 23, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 26 and Dec. 24.

Brushcreek Township
Trustees' meetings
    The Board of Brushcreek Township Trustees, Highland County, will hold
their public meetings on the first and third Monday of each month for the
entirety of the year 2024. Meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Brushcreek
Township Fire Department, 7 N. Chestnut St, Sinking Spring.

HDH Board of
Governors meetings
    The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will meet in 2024 on
the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in the
Education Room, located on the first floor at Highland District Hospital.
Meeting schedules for specific committees can be obtained by contacting
Melinda Russell at (937) 393-6101.

Hillsboro meetings
The City of Hillsboro has released the following revised 2024 meeting
schedule.
    • City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: April 11,
May 16, June 13, July 11, Aug. 15, Sept. 12, Oct. 17, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
    • Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: April 15, May 20,
June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.
    • The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
at at 130 North High St. Scheduled dates are: May 22, Aug. 21 and Nov. 20.
    • The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates are: April
10, May 8, June 12, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.

Senior food donations
    The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

Peace Lutheran Church
    Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland
County Fair and has their meetings at the church. Call Peace Lutheran at
(937) 393-1837 with any questions.

Lynchburg Historical Society
    The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.

New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
    New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
