HDH Board, Health
Department annual
meeting March 13
The Joint Township Highland District Hospital Trustees and the Highland
County Health Department will hold their annual meeting Wednesday, March 13
at 7 p.m. in the Highland District Hospital Education Room.
Black History Month
program March 9
The 2024 Black History Month program, presented by the African American
Awareness Research Council (AAARC) and the Highland County District Library,
has been rescheduled for March 9.
The program will be held at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene,
beginning at 1 p.m. The Coleman family of Greenfield, and Josh McCoy, Senior
Executive Officer of Adena, will be the honorees. The program will also
feature a speech by Ohio State Representative Dontavius Jarrells of District
1.
The 2024 AAARC Scholarship recipients will be recognized. They are Ayden
Clemons, Morgan Garman, Haylee Havens and Jenna Rhoades. The program will
feature musical selections. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Cabin Fever Arts
Festival April 6
The Cabin Fever Arts Festival, hosted by the Appalachian Artisans Guild
with a grant from The Ohio Arts Council, will be held Saturday, April 6 from
10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Patriot Center on Southern State Community College's
central campus.
The festival will feature over 60 artists and crafters, live music all
day, and a food truck and coffee truck. Admission is free.
Lenten services announced
The congregations of Peace Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church
invite the community to join them during Lent as they prepare for Easter.
St. Paul Lutheran Church is located at 502 Pearl St., Lynchburg, and Peace
Lutheran Church is at 231 Harry Sauner Rd., Hillsboro. Regular worship
services are held at 9 a.m. at Peace and at 11 a.m. at St. Paul on Sundays.
During the Lent season, mid-week gatherings will also be held.
The Lenten Mid-Week suggested format is a simple reflection, prayer and
study gathering, focusing on the Psalm lesson of that week for the scripture
focus. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own sandwich. Times and
locations of the gatherings are:
• March 3, Third Sunday in Lent, and March 6, Mid-Week III at St. Paul
at 6 p.m.
• March 10, Fourth Sunday in Lent, and March 13, Mid-Week IV at Peace at
6 p.m.
• March 17, Fifth Sunday in Lent, and March 20, Mid-Week V at St. Paul
at 6 p.m.
• March 24, Palm/Passion Sunday.
• March 28, Maundy Thursday service at St. Paul at 7 p.m.
• March 29, Good Friday service at Peace at 7 p.m.
• March 31, Easter Sunday: Peace 9 a.m., St. Paul 11 a.m.
Roundball reunion
March 13 at WC
A roundball reunion will be held Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. at
Wilmington College's Kelly Center, in the McCoy Room on College Street in
recognition of the 60th anniversary of the last Clinton and Highland County
tournaments.
The purpose of the event is to honor all those players, cheerleaders,
managers and coaches who participated in the high school county basketball
tournaments in Clinton and Highland counties. All participants will be
introduced, with special recognition to honored groups. It has been 60 years
since the last county tournaments were played in 1964.
Schools that will be recognized are:
• Clinton County: Adams, Blanchester, Clarksville, Jefferson, Kingman,
Martinsville, New Vienna, Port William, Sabina, Simon Kenton and Wayne.
• Highland County: Belfast, Buford, Fairfield, Lynchburg, Marshall,
Sinking Spring and Whiteoak.
All of the above-mentioned schools participated in the county
tournaments in the '50s, but due to consolidation, not all of them played in
the '60s.
In addition to the tournament participants, anyone can attend this
event. There is no admission charge. All attendees are encouraged to bring
available memorabilia, including, but not limited to, team pictures,
newspaper articles, tournament programs, etc.

HCCAO Board meetings
The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2024 on the following dates: March 26, April 23, May 28, June 25,
July 23, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 26 and Dec. 24.
Brushcreek Township
Trustees' meetings
The Board of Brushcreek Township Trustees, Highland County, will hold
their public meetings on the first and third Monday of each month for the
entirety of the year 2024. Meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Brushcreek
Township Fire Department, 7 N. Chestnut St, Sinking Spring.
HDH Board of
Governors meetings
The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will meet in 2024 on
the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in the
Education Room, located on the first floor at Highland District Hospital.

Hillsboro meetings
• City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: March 14, April 11, May 16, June 13, July 11, Aug. 15, Sept. 12, Oct. 17, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
• Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates include: March 18, April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.
• The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m. at at 130 North High St. Scheduled dates are: May 22, Aug. 21 and Nov. 20.
• The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. at 130 North High St. Scheduled meeting dates are: March 13, April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.
Holidays observed by the city (offices closed) include: Memorial Day, May 27; Juneteenth, June 19; Independence Day, July 4; Labor Day, Sept. 2; Veterans Day, Nov. 11; Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28; Day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 29; and Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
Senior food donations
The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

Peace Lutheran Church
Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland
County Fair and has their meetings at the church. Call Peace Lutheran at

Lynchburg Historical Society
The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.
New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
