Sinking Spring Community Church soup supper

The Sinking Spring Community Church Men's Group will host its annual
soup supper Saturday, Feb. 24 from 4-7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the
church, located at 23 North Main St., Sinking Spring. The menu will include
chili, vegetable and potato soups; ham and bean soup and cornbread; pimento
cheese and peanut butter sandwiches; hot dogs; a variety of desserts; fresh
vegetable trays; and iced tea, lemonade, water and coffee.
    A freewill donation will be accepted.

Fairfield Local Schools Board
of Education to meet Feb. 26
The February regular meeting of the Fairfield Local Schools Board of
Education has been changed to Monday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. in the District
Office Conference Room. The public is invited to attend.

Lenten services announced
    The congregations of Peace Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church
invite the community to join them during Lent as they prepare for Easter.
St. Paul Lutheran Church is located at 502 Pearl St., Lynchburg, and Peace
Lutheran Church is at 231 Harry Sauner Rd., Hillsboro. Regular worship
services are held at 9 a.m. at Peace and at 11 a.m. at St. Paul on Sundays.
During the Lent season, mid-week gatherings will also be held.
    The Lenten Mid-Week suggested format is a simple reflection, prayer and
study gathering, focusing on the Psalm lesson of that week for the scripture
focus. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own sandwich.
    Times and locations of the gatherings are:
    • Feb. 25, Second Sunday in Lent, and Feb. 28, Mid-Week II at Peace at 6
p.m.
    • March 3, Third Sunday in Lent, and March 6, Mid-Week III at St. Paul
at 6 p.m.
    • March 10, Fourth Sunday in Lent, and March 13, Mid-Week IV at Peace at
6 p.m.
    • March 17, Fifth Sunday in Lent, and March 20, Mid-Week V at St. Paul
at 6 p.m.
    • March 24, Palm/Passion Sunday.
    • March 28, Maundy Thursday service at St. Paul at 7 p.m.
    • March 29, Good Friday service at Peace at 7 p.m.
    • March 31, Easter Sunday: Peace 9 a.m., St. Paul 11 a.m.

HCNJFA District Board
to meet Feb. 20
    The Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District Board of
Trustees' meeting will be held at 200 South St., Leesburg, Ohio, on Tuesday,
Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.

    • Notice is hereby given that the Highland County North Joint Fire and
Ambulance District Board of Trustees have petitioned the Highland County
Court of Common Pleas pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 5705.16 for the
transfer of the unencumbered balance in the general bond retirement fund to
the general fund of Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District.
Said funds have no outstanding encumbrances and all principal and interest
payments has been completed for which the funds were established. The
petition shall be heard in the Court of Common Pleas, Highland County on
Feb. 28 at 9:30 a.m.

Roundball reunion
March 13 at WC
    A roundball reunion will be held Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. at
Wilmington College's Kelly Center, in the McCoy Room on College Street in
recognition of the 60th anniversary of the last Clinton and Highland County
tournaments.
    The purpose of the event is to honor all those players, cheerleaders,
managers and coaches who participated in the high school county basketball
tournaments in Clinton and Highland counties. All participants will be
introduced, with special recognition to honored groups. It has been 60 years
since the last county tournaments were played in 1964.
    Schools that will be recognized are:  
    • Clinton County: Adams, Blanchester, Clarksville, Jefferson, Kingman,
Martinsville, New Vienna, Port William, Sabina, Simon Kenton and Wayne.
    • Highland County: Belfast, Buford, Fairfield, Lynchburg, Marshall,
Sinking Spring and Whiteoak.
    All of the above-mentioned schools participated in the county
tournaments in the '50s, but due to consolidation, not all of them played in
the '60s.
    In addition to the tournament participants, anyone can attend this
event. There is no admission charge. All attendees are encouraged to bring
available memorabilia, including, but not limited to, team pictures,
newspaper articles, tournament programs, etc.

blood drive Feb. 22
    The Highland County Health Department is excited to announce it will be
hosting a Hoxworth blood drive on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The
Hoxworth Donor Bus will be parked at 1487 N. High Street, Hillsboro.

ECHS presents 'Little
Shop of Horrors' Feb. 23-24
East Clinton High School will present "Little Shop of Horrors" at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Murphy Theatre in Wilmington.
    Reserved tickets may be purchased at the high school office or at the
door. Adult tickets are $10 and student tickets are $8. Reserved box seats
are also available. Tickets are available online at www.eastclinton.org. For

HCCAO Board meetings
    The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2024 on the following dates: Feb. 27, March 26, April 23, May 28,
June 25, July 23, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 26 and Dec. 24.

Brushcreek Township
Trustees' meetings
    The Board of Brushcreek Township Trustees, Highland County, will hold
their public meetings on the first and third Monday of each month for the
entirety of the year 2024. Meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Brushcreek
Township Fire Department, 7 N. Chestnut St, Sinking Spring.

HDH Board of
Governors meetings
    The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will meet in 2024 on
the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in the
Education Room, located on the first floor at Highland District Hospital.

Hillsboro meetings
    The 2024 City of Hillsboro meeting schedule is as follows.
    • City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom.
    • Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at the old
firehouse on Governor Trimble Place.
    • The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
in the City Building. Scheduled dates are: May 22, Aug. 21 and Nov. 20.
    • Records Commission meetings are TBA.
    • Civil Service Commission meetings are TBA.
    • The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at the City Building.
    Changes in schedule or special meetings must be published a minimum of
24 hours prior to meeting time.

Senior food donations
    The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

Peace Lutheran Church
    Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland
County Fair and has their meetings at the church. Call Peace Lutheran at

Lynchburg Historical Society
    The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.

New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
    New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
