VFW Post 9094 fish fry Dec. 2
VFW Post 9094 will host a fish fry Saturday, Dec. 2 from 4:30-7 p.m.
Meals are $14 and include all the fish you can eat, fries, slaw, hush
puppies and a soft drink.
The VFW is located at 1000 West Main Street, Hillsboro. The fish fry is
open to the public.
Mowrystown Christmas Parade Dec. 2
The annual Mowrystown Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 2.
This year's theme will be "Jingle Bell Christmas" and Chuck Wait has been
selected to serve as the grand marshal.
Parade line up is noon at Nutrien Ag Solutions, 115 West Main Street.
Judging is at 12:30 p.m. The parade starts at 1 p.m. Cash prizes will be
awarded by the Lions Club for the Best of Theme, Best Decorated Vehicle and
Judges' Choice.
We want to see your "Jingle Bell Christmas" parade entry. Build a float,
drive your vehicle, tractor or golf cart, ride a horse, walk your dog, etc.
We encourage all school groups, 4-H Clubs, fire departments, churches, etc.
to come be a part. Let's make this the best parade ever.
Cookies, hot chocolate, and pictures with Santa after the parade will be
available at the Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar at Whiteoak High
School following the parade.
Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair
& Bazaar set for Dec. 2
The annual Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar will be held Saturday,
Dec. 2 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Whiteoak High School, 44 North High
Street, Mowrystown. There will be something for everyone. Lunch will be
available. Please stop by and check out the many crafts and vendor items.
Santa will be making a stop following the Holiday Parade. Hot chocolate
and cookies will be served. Parents may take pictures of Santa and their
children.

Christmas in Marshall Dec. 2
The Marshall School Committee invites everyone to Christmas in Marshall
Dec. 2 from 4-7 p.m. at the Marshall School gymnasium in Marshall.
Enjoy turkey and dressing, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes and all the
trimmings. A freewill donation will be accepted. Visit with Santa and Mrs.
Claus while you enjoy the festivities.
An "I Can See Clearly" benefit auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. to raise
funds for new windows. Auction donations would be greatly appreciated.

Lynchburg Lions Club
candy sale underway
The Lynchburg Lions Club is having their annual candy sale now through
Dec. 31. There will be 40 different varieties of candy for sale. Candy will
be available in Hillsboro at the Highland County Republican Headquarters at
200 West Main Street. It will also be available at the Southern Hills
Community Bank in Lynchburg.
The location in Lynchburg will be open during regular bank business
hours. The location in Hillsboro will be open Monday through Friday from 10
a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Knights of Pythias Lodge
Christmas party Dec. 16
The Knights of Pythias Lodge 696 will hold their annual Christmas party
Saturday, Dec. 16 beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a dinner at 6:15 p.m. (bring
a covered dish).
The lodge is located at 1879 state Route 73 in Belfast.
Santa will arrive at 7:30 p.m. There will be drawings, door prizes,
50/50 drawings, fun, food, prizes and games.
Gifts are donated by local merchants, friends and families. The lodge
members thank all those who participated in last year and are looking
forward to this year¹s party.

Wreaths Across America
Day Dec. 16
National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) and the Waw-wil-a-way
Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will be joining in the
mission to Remember, Honor, Teach by placing wreaths on the graves at the
official location of the Hillsboro Cemetery for 2023.This is the first year
that the Hillsboro Cemetery will participate in this national program.
Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that has grown
into a national, yearlong movement of dedicated volunteers and communities
coming together to not only remember the nation¹s fallen and honor their
service, but to teach the next generation about the value of freedom.
The goal for the Hillsboro Cemetery is to raise enough funds to place
500 sponsored veterans wreaths on the headstones of local heroes laid to
rest. Unfortunately, this is only a small few, as there are approximately
1,127 veterans laid to rest. Those interested in volunteering for Wreaths
Across America or sponsoring a wreath ($17) for the Hillsboro Cemetery may

National Wreaths Across America Day, observed Saturday, Dec. 16, is a
free community event open to all people. The ceremony will begin at noon,
with the wreath placement immediately following.
Hillsboro meetings
The 2024 City of Hillsboro meeting schedule is as follows.
• City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom.
• Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at
the old firehouse on Governor Trimble Place.
• The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
in the City Building. Scheduled dates are: Jan. 17, May 22, Aug. 21 and Nov.

• Records Commission meetings are TBA.
• Civil Service Commission meetings are TBA.
• The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at the City Building.
Changes in schedule or special meetings must be published a minimum of
24 hours prior to meeting time.
Senior food donations
The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

Reformers Unanimous offers Christian support for all types of addiction

The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2

New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the absolute earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
