Local fundraiser Nov. 19
    The Lake View Loft, along with the Shabby Moose and Papa John's
Hillsboro, will be holding a public fundraiser, "Let's Give Colton A Hand,"
for 10-year-old Colton Keech of Hillsboro Sunday, Nov. 19 from 1-5 p.m. at
the Lake View Loft, 10215 Jones Road, Hillsboro.
    Keech was was born without a left arm and hand due to a condition called
 Ambiotic Band Syndrome. He is very active, playing football, basketball and
baseball. His family believes he would benefit from a prosthetic/myoelectric
arm and hand. However, his private insurance will not approve the
prosthetic, which costs over $45,000.
    This fundraiser will consist of a meal, silent auction, raffles, jumpy
house, games for kids, etc. All proceeds will be used to purchase Keech a
prosthetic arm and hand.
    Silent auction donations, gift baskets and monetary donations are being
accepted for the Nov. 19 event. Local restaurants are also being asked to
help provide food for the fundraiser. If you are able to help in any way,

St. Colman Catholic Church
hosts concert Nov. 12
    St. Colman Catholic Church will celebrate 250 years of youthful choral
magic in a Concerts in a Country Church series performance Sunday, Nov. 12
at 3 p.m. The church is located at 219 South North Street, Washington Court
House 43160. 
    The St. Colman Choir will perform Mozart's "Missa Brevis" in D major,
and the combined choirs will sing Gjeilo's "Sunrise" Mass, with both works
to be accompanied by string ensemble. Craig Jaynes directs the St. Colman
Choir, and David Scott is director for Washington High School vocal music
program.
    Tickets are $15 per person and may be obtained from St. Colman Choir
members or sending payment to the church ("Concert"); tickets may also be
reserved by calling (937) 675-7055 or may be purchased at the door if not
sold out in advance. Abundant free parking is available all around the
church.  

Rainsboro Methodist Church
concert Nov. 12
    On Nov. 12, the piano quartet of Marilyn Myers, Debbie Vesely, Mindy Lee
and Jennie Harner will be presenting an afternoon of music at the Rainsboro
Methodist Church.
    The concert begins at 3 p.m., and all are invited to share this time
with them.

Wreaths Across America Day
    National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) and the
Waw-wil-a-way Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will be
joining in the mission to Remember, Honor, Teach by placing wreaths on the
graves at the official location of the Hillsboro Cemetery for 2023. This is
the first year that the Hillsboro Cemetery will participate in this national
program. Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that
has grown into a national, yearlong movement of dedicated volunteers and
communities coming together to not only remember the nation's fallen and
honor their service, but to teach the next generation about the value of
freedom.
    The goal for the Hillsboro Cemetery is to raise enough funds to place
500 sponsored veterans wreaths on the headstones of local heroes laid to
rest. Unfortunately, this is only a small few, as there are
approximately 1,127 veterans laid to rest. Those interested in volunteering
for Wreaths Across America or sponsoring a wreath ($17) for the Hillsboro

    National Wreaths Across America Day, observed Saturday, Dec. 16, is a
free community event open to all people. The ceremony will begin at noon,
with the wreath placement immediately following.

    SATH is holding its 20th annual Turkey Bingo. Thanksgiving is just
around the corner, and we have the event for your holiday. Come play bingo
and win a turkey or maybe even Thanksgiving dinner.
    Bingo will begin Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elementary
gymnasium. During the night, 25 turkeys will be given away. The evening¹s
event will end with a game of coverall in which the winner gets a complete
Thanksgiving dinner.
    The cost will be a donation of 25 cents per card per game. During each
intermission, there will be a cake walk.
    Prior to bingo, a soup supper will kick off the evening at 5 p.m. Come
early and enjoy some homemade chili, chicken and noodles, cornbread, hot
dogs and lots of delicious desserts.

DAV Chapter 123 hosts
Veterans Day dinner
    Disabled American Veterans Chapter 123 in Hillsboro is inviting all
Highland County veterans, active duty personnel, veterans¹ widows and guests
to its annual Veterans Day dinner.
    The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, starting at 4:30 p.m., in the
Hi-TEC conference room, 1575 North High St., Hillsboro.

Greenfield Presbyterian
Church dinner Nov. 19
    The First Presbyterian Church, 457 Jefferson Street, Greenfield, will be
serving dinner Sunday, Nov. 19 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the church dining
room. The menu will include ham loaf, loaded mashed potatoes, green
beans/corn, cornbread, fruit salad, variety of desserts, coffee, tea and
lemonade. Carryout will be available.
    The suggested donation is $12 per person, and children 6 and under eat
free. Everyone is welcome.

WHS juniors host
5k walk, run  Nov. 18
    Whiteoak's junior class is hosting a Gobble Gobble Run or Wobble 5K
race, Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. at Whiteoak High School.
    Registration is $30 and includes a free T-shirt with pre-registration by
Nov. 1. Signups will continue until the morning of the race, with a limited
number of shirts available for $20 at the event.
    Checks should be made payable to Bright Local Schools. All proceeds will
go to the WHS junior class for prom and other activities.
    Age group medals will be awarded for the following groups: 8 and under;
9-11; 12-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59;
60-64; 65-69; and 70 and up. Awards will also be presented to the top three
overall male/female runners; top two of each age group; and top three
walkers.

Veterans Appreciation Night Nov. 10
    The 11th annual Veterans Appreciation Night and open house will be
4-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at the Hi-TEC Center conference room. The Hi-TEC
Center is located at 1575 North High Street in Hillsboro. Light refreshments
will be served. Special recognition will be given to Korean War veterans on
the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement in 1953.
    The event is hosted by the Highland County Veterans Service Office.

SOESC Board to meet Nov. 20
    The Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board will have its
regular meeting Monday, Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Region 14/Hopewell
Center, 5350 W. New Market Road, Hillsboro.

St. Vincent de Paul Society 
    The St. Vincent de Paul Society in Hillsboro will be offering two outreach
sessions in November, during which SVdP volunteers will be available to meet
with those in need of assistance. 
    The first session will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.  The
second is being rescheduled from its normal fourth Wednesday to the last
Wednesday of November (Nov. 29) from 6-7:30 p.m.     
    The outreach sessions will be held at the Parish Hall (formerly St. Mary
School) at 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro. 
    Individuals seeking assistance must bring a copy of their bill, proof of
