Diehl Park cleanup 
Saturday, May 6
    The Mowrystown Lions Club will be hosting the area's Diehl Park cleanup
Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. 
    Diehl Park is located in Mowrystown at the end of Weaver Street and
Diehl Avenue. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Grab your
gloves, rake, trimmers, hoe, shovel, etc. and come help clean up the
village's park.

Retired Teachers' 
Association to meet May 1
    The Highland County Retired Teacher's  Association (HCRTA) will hold its
regular spring meeting on Monday, May 1, at the Hillsboro Church of Christ
fellowship hall. The church is located at 155 W. Walnut Street, Hillsboro.
Social time will begin at 11 a.m., and the meal will be served at noon.
Following lunch, the guest speaker will be Mr. Rudy Fichtenbaum. He is a
member of the STRS State Board, and he will discuss the duties of the Board
and the concerns that retired teachers have. He is very supportive of
retired teachers and he will be an excellent source of information.
    The community service project for this meeting is the Highland County
Shop with a Cop program for children in the area.
    The business meeting will follow the speaker's presentation. The cost

Aralyn's Turtley 
Awesome Event
    Aralyn's Turtley Awesome Event, a benefit for Aralyn's Alliance, will be
held June 2 from 6-11 p.m. at the Lake View Loft, located at 10215 Jones
Road, Hillsboro. All proceeds will go to the family of Aralyn Slack, a
10-year-old from Lynchburg who is fighting DIPG, a terminal, aggressive form
of brain cancer.
    The event will include catered food with a cash donation bar; split the
pot and raffle items; and a silent auction including a quarter beef, Yeti
cooler filled with liquor, a gun raffle and more. There will also be a
bouncy house, "dunk a trucker dunk tank" and face painting. A concert
featuring Filo Beddoe will begin at 8 p.m.
    There will be a semi truck parade from Hillsboro to the Lake View Loft,
with Aralyn arriving in Pinky 1 at 7:45 p.m. For questions or donations,

St. Mary's Episcopal
Church free dinner April 29
    St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Hillsboro is hosting a free dinner on
April 29 from 5-6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Church rummage
sale May 4-5
    Hillsboro Global Methodist Church, 133 E. Walnut Street, will hold a
rummage sale Thursday, May 4 from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and Friday, May 5 from
8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday will be "fill a bag for $1" day.
    The event is sponsored by the Methodist Women.

Berrysville church
revival May 2-7
    The Berrysville Holiness Church, 4234 state Route 73, Hillsboro, will
hold a revival May 2-7.
    Tuesday-Saturday services will start at 7 p.m. with Rev. Andy Cooley
preaching. 
    Sunday services will begin at 11 a.m. with a baby dedication. A carry-in
lunch will follow the morning service at the church¹s fellowship hall, and
an afternoon service will begin at 2 p.m. All are welcome.

National Day of Prayer
May 4 at Buford church
    Buford Church of Christ will be hosting a National Day of Prayer service
May 4 at 7 p.m. The church is located at 2457 state Route 138 in Buford.
Special speakers from across the area will include: Kenneth Barr, Buford
Community Church Pastor; Alex Butler of the Marshall Church of Christ and
Highland County Auditor; Rudy Diskete of the Buford Church of Christ and
Commander of the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard; Herb Day of Southside
Praise & Worship Center in Hillsboro and a well-known local broadcaster and
radio owner; Allyson Beckelhimer of the Georgetown Church of Christ and a
first grade teacher at Mt. Orab Elementary; Lowell Bernhardt, elder at The
Crossing; and Bob Cockrell, minister of the Buford Church of Christ and
Church of Christ Hollowtown.
    Refreshments will be served following the service.

Buford Alumni Dinner  May 27
    The annual Buford Alumni Dinner will be held Saturday, May 27 at the
Pricetown Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 2070 S.R. 131, Hillsboro. All
former graduates and students of Buford High School and Elementary School
and their guests are invited to attend. The classes of 1948, 1953, 1958 and
1963 will be recognized and honored. 
    There is ample parking and wheelchair accessibility at the church.
    Social hour begins at 6 p.m. A buffet dinner by Mona Lisa's Restaurant
will be served at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $12 per person. Reservations may be

Altrusa of Highland County
sponsoring golf tournament
    Altrusa of Highland County is sponsoring a golf tournament in memory of
longtime club member Nancy Graves. 
    It will be held on Saturday, June 3 at Buckeye Hills Golf Course and
Country Club. 
    Altrusa is an international nonprofit organization which focuses on
making our communities better through leadership and service with goals to
enhance literacy for everyone. 
    Graves was very active in all of the club service projects and
especially passionate about providing books for the youth in the county. She
was committed to Altrusa's projects of giving a book to every elementary
student in the county, passing out books to the campers at KAMP Dovetail and
keeping the Little Free Library boxes filled in the county. 
    This one-time golf tournament will help Altrusa raise the funds needed
to continue the literacy projects that Graves felt so strongly about. Any
support you can give would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions

Quilt show July 14-15
    Country Quilters are planning their annual quilt show, Quilts of
Highland County, July 14-15 at Hillsboro High School, U.S. Route 62 South,

HUBA meetings
    The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association (HUBA) is a 501(c)(3)
charitable organization with a mission statement of nurturing and assisting
the growth, improvement and expansion of both existing and new businesses
and services offered in the general uptown Hillsboro area, with a main focus
of bringing merchants into uptown Hillsboro. HUBA meetings are held at 8:30
a.m. at the Highland County Administration Building in the basement room.
The dates for the 2023 meetings are: May 9, June 13, July 11, Aug. 8, Sept.
12, Oct. 10 and Nov. 14. Anyone who has a business or is interested in
starting a business is welcome to join HUBA at a meeting.

Senior food donations
    The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,
Hillsboro.

HCCAO Board meeting dates announced
    The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2023 on the following dates: May 23, June 27, July 25, Aug. 22,
Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 28 and Dec. 26.

Brushcreek Township
trustees' meetings
    The Highland County Brushcreek Township Trustees will hold the 2023
meetings for the entire fiscal year on the first and third Thursday of each
month at 7 p.m. The meetings are open to the public and will be held at 7 N.
Chestnut Street, Sinking Spring 45172.

HDH Board meetings
    The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meetings for 2023 will
be held on the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in
the Education Room at Highland District Hospital. Meeting schedules for
specific committees can be obtained by contacting Melinda Russell at (937)
393-6101.

Hillsboro meetings
    The City of Hillsboro has issued the following meeting schedule for
2023.
    • City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Courtroom.
    • The Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at 5:30
p.m. in the old firehouse on Governor Trimble Place.
    • The Revolving Loan Fund committee has quarterly meetings scheduled for
the following dates: May 17, Aug. 16 and Nov. 15. Meetings are held at the
City Building at 10 a.m.
    • The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at the City Building.
    • Meetings for the Records Commission and Civil Service Commission are
TBA.
    Changes in schedule or special meetings must be published a minimum of
24 hours prior to meeting time.

Reformers Unanimous
    Reformers Unanimous offers Christian support for all types of addiction
every Friday from 7-9 p.m. Meetings are held at Greenfield Area Christian
Center, located at 912 North Fifth Street in Greenfield. Call (937) 515-6748

Peace Lutheran Church
    Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland
County Fair and has their meetings at the church. Call Peace Lutheran at
(937) 393-1837 with any questions.

Lynchburg Historical Society
    The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.

New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
    New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the absolute earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.

St. Vincent de Paul Society
    The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro
will conduct outreach sessions on the second Saturday of each month at St.
Mary Parish Hall, 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro from 10 a.m.-noon.
Volunteers will be available to meet with neighbors seeking assistance on a
first-come, first-serve basis. SVdP will no longer be holding the additional
outreach day at Samaritan Outreach each month. Please bring proof of income
