Community Action Committee of Pike County’s annual spring event a success

The Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) hosted their annual spring event Tuesday, April 4 in the multipurpose building at the Pike County Fairgrounds.

The CAC’s Events Committee members worked diligently to create a family fun atmosphere of springtime excitement. In addition to the many programs at the CAC, the agency’s partners and some local businesses participated in passing out candy, giveaway items, games and information on services available in the area to over 400 local residents who attended the event.

In the spirit of Easter, over 4,500 candy-filled eggs were divided by age groups for the youngsters to gather. It is estimated that over 500 kids scooped up eggs in less than five minutes. The egg hunt areas were sectioned off by age groups to ensure that all children were able to enjoy the event.

The CAC would like to express an enormous debt of gratitude to SOCS Wireless for the generous donation of 3,000 eggs. The contribution further displays SOCS’s support and passion for the community.

Adding an even bigger attraction to this year’s event, Barker’s Family Farm brought a unique petting zoo to the event with a porcupine, goats, mini cow, rabbits and Daniel the Camel, who was the star of the show. The children were given the opportunity to interact with the animals by feeding and petting, as well as learning interesting facts about each of the animals.

The Easter Bunny was present to interact with the children, pose for photos and pass out treats.
Many businesses engaged the community with games and face painting. The Pike County Sheriff’s Department had their Ident-a-Kid station set up and provided this service to parents at no cost. Local businesses shared information to local job seekers, and the agencies provided information on supportive services available to those in need.

“Hosting these events not only brings the community together,” said Keith Pitts, President & CEO of CAC “but connects them with many services they would otherwise not known about.”

The Events Committee of the CAC would like to extend a sincere thank-you to SOCS Wireless, the business and agency representatives were participated, Barker’s Family Farm and the patrons who made this event successful.

In addition, the Committee would like to recognize the dedication and commitment of all its members who worked tirelessly to continue to provide the community with these types of events that make such a positive impact on those we serve.
