Commissioners proclaim May as Older Americans Month in Highland County

Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeff Duncan signed a proclamation designating May 2015 as Older Americans Month in Highland County, with the theme "Well Beyond 60!"

Accepting the proclamation was Highland County Senior Citizens Center Executive Director Mechell Frost and Jenni Dovyak‐Lewis from the Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7). Also attending the presentation were Jeannette Knauff (former Senior Citizen of the Year), Eloise Garrison (former Senior Citizen of the Year), Ruth Crabtree, Richard Crabtree, John King, Gretchen Huffman and Marlene Stephenson of AAA7.

According to Lewis, 486 people in Highland County receive services by the Area Agency on Aging District 7.

Frost updated the board on several upcoming events at the Senior Center in Hillsboro, including the WVNU Golden Anniversary dinner on May 8, the WSRW Senior Expo on May 12 and the US Foods luncheon on May 13.
