City of Hillsboro issues proclamation for Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23

Hillsboro Mayor Justin Harsha proclaimed the week of Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week in the City of Hillsboro, Monday morning in his office.
Accepting the proclamation were Jane Stowers, Vicki Knauff and Emma Lerch, members of the local Waw-wil-a-way Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
According to the proclamation, “Sept. 17, 2021 marks the 234th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention. It is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its memorable anniversary and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion.”
Through the proclamation, Harsha also encouraged Hillsboro “citizens to reaffirm the ideals the framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.”
Stowers reminded the community to join in ringing bells Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. for “Bells Across America,” to commemorate the anniversary of the Constitution’s signing.
The local DAR chapter also plans to distribute copies of the Bill of Rights to local students and will have displays at the county libraries, Stowers said.
