Christmas traditions in Greenfield

Christmas time is on the way to Greenfield. On Saturday night, Dec. 7, the Christmas parade will light up the town of Greenfield. Then, on Sunday, Dec. 8, the Greenfield Historical Society will continue some Christmas traditions for the town.
The first event the historical society would like to announce is the second annual nativity display at the Konneker Education Museum at 245 South Street. Last year, there were nativities from the University of Dayton's Marion Library.
Visitors commented that they have nativity collections, so this year we have society members who have volunteered to share their nativity collections with visitors. Some of the donors will be at the site to share the stories of their collections.
There will also be on display approximately 15 plate and 15 litho tins loaned to us from the University of Dayton's Marian Library for the day. Earlene Scott has arranged for this display and also for a display of nativities at the Greenfield Library in December.
The newly created Greenfield Education Museum will be on display for the public to view.
This display was created early in 2013 to highlight the history of education in Greenfield. There are displays of the Greenfield Business College, blueprints of McClain High School, pictures and memorabilia from many of the schools in Greenfield and surrounding villages. There is also a beautiful large photo of Old Central School.
On the museum side of the building, there will also be a beautiful display of Christmas cards from before the 1960s. This display is being put together by Wendy Royse and Susan Thompson. It will be a fun look back into history seeing the old cards and the unique way the people shared holiday greetings with each other through the years.
This building will be open to all and will be free of charge. The Greenfield Historical Society wants to encourage you to visit the Konneker Education Museum on Dec. 8 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. and enjoy the nativities, the history, and the Christmas cards.
There will also be a baked steak dinner served at the Grain and Hay building from 11:30 until 1:30 that day. Then, the Christmas Tour of Homes will be happening from 12:30-4:30 p.m.
On the tour will be homes in the Greenfield area, the First Presbyterian Church, and the Smith Tannery decorated for Christmas. Reserve the date to enjoy Christmas in Greenfield on Sunday afternoon Dec. 8. Look for more details in the future as plans are finalized for the tour.
