“Serenity Square,” the Chillicothe VA’s first dedicated longer-term mental health rehabilitation community, opens the week of Sept. 16. The opening ceremony will take place Monday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. on the Chillicothe VA campus, at the entrance of Building 26.

The mission of “Serenity Square” is to support those who have recently faced challenges in their mental health journey or experienced a change in their condition. Through our comprehensive mental health rehabilitation programs and the unwavering support of our exceptional team, we empower veterans to achieve their personal goals.

Lindsay Jeffers, Assistant Chief of Rehab and Extended Care, is one of the leads for implementing this new program and details her excitement with opening this new neighborhood.

“The Chillicothe VA is honored to be able to offer this new level of care for Veterans, which is a first of its kind in the nation,” Jeffers says. “We deliver Veteran-Centered care within a secure, home-like environment to help each Veteran reach their personal goals.”

Dr. John Desmarais will be the Medical Director of Serenity Square and in an interview with WLOH-The Wolf Radio Network said, “We have a full array of high quality staff available to help with our veterans that are dealing with mental health challenges, from a doctor, psychiatrist, expertly trained nurses and social workers to help with displacement and employment. It’s a comprehensive system and a comprehensive answer to what has been a nagging and difficult to solve problem.”

Following Monday’s ribbon cutting, the new unit will be open to the public as an open house for the remainder of the day. We encourage our community partners to tour the area to gain a better understanding of how “Serenity Square” will function and serve our communities.
