Bob Hottle Memorial 5k raises funds for Downtown Hillsboro Veterans Banner Project

The Bob Hottle Memorial 5k Fun Run & Walk was held Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Liberty Park Veterans Memorial, raising approximately $1,000 for the Downtown Hillsboro Veterans Banner Project.
Steph Roland of the Highland County Veterans Service Commission and Hottle had planned a race for 2020, but due to the pandemic and Hottle’s declining health, the event was delayed until 2021. Hottle passed away Nov. 6, 2020
Hottle’s daughter, Susanna Hottle, said that her father’s “wish was to help veterans in the community display their own banner proudly even if budgets don't allow.”
“Our collective mission was to encourage our community to get moving and just try to do something,” she said. “Bob's commitment to physical fitness was an inspiration. His doctors said it scientifically gave him more time to fight against glioblastoma. His quality of life toward the end of his days was a testament to all the collective hours he spent jogging and lifting at the YMCA.”
Over 40 participants enjoyed a sunny but chilly day for the race. Approximately $1,000 was raised for the project, but additional donations are welcome.

Prizes were provided by: Palmer Farms; Hottle’s Glad Garden; Dr. Rex Chiropractic; Mrs. Robert “Bob” Hottle; Jared Worley and family; David Graham; Daniel Graham; and the Faraday family.
