Becky Basford honored with 2013 Nursing Excellence-Leadership Award from InterAct for Change

InterAct for Change has honored Becky Basford, MSN, CS, RN, Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Adams County Regional Medical Center, with the 2013 Nursing Excellence-Leadership Award.

The InterAct for Change board created the Nursing Excellence Award to honor individuals who demonstrate outstand contributions to nursing in Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana. The award was first presented in 2008.

“Becky’s nomination stood out among the many that we received,” says Francie Wolgin, Senior Program Officer for The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, a sister organization of InterAct for Change.

Basford has worked as a Nurse Practitioner in the Adams County Regional Medical Center since 2007, providing preventive and primary care services to patients of all ages. She founded the Adams County Health & Wellness Coalition, bringing together community stakeholders from local school districts, large employers, community agencies, grocery stores, the Board of Health and others interested in health promotion, to make and implement action plans.

“Among the ACHWC’s accomplishments are over $50,000 in grant funding to build a fitness trail at a local high school and to provide nutrition education at local grocery stories. Additionally, she has led the members of the ACHWC to work together to change policies in Adams County to promote health,” said Wolgin in presenting the award.

“As the lead proposal writer for Adams County Regional Medical Center, she has secured over $1 million in grants and awards to benefit the health of Adams County residents.” Her nominator said of her, “She is a premier leader in health and wellness in Adams County, a fighter for resources and funding for health promotion in rural Appalachia and a general force with which to be reckoned.”

Basford also is the president of the Highland County Society for Children and Adults, an organization which partners with the Hillsboro and Greenfield Rotary Clubs to provide financial assistance to individuals who cannot pay for necessary medical treatment.
