Artisan fair seeking new talent

LEESBURG – In the world of artisan shows and craft fairs, 27 years is a long time.
For a small village one might consider it miraculous. This year, Leesburg and the Fairfield Local School system will be celebrating just that – 27 years of the Artisan Folk Fair.
What started as a living history experience for students has evolved into an event drawing artisans and attendees from all across the state.
What makes this show so popular? Artisans and shoppers agree the variety and quality of artisan-crafted items bring them back.
Entertainment provided by area school groups also brings new visitors.
Offering a long-lived event is not without concerns.
Almost three decades is a long time to ask artisans to return. Many have retired from shows, some have passed on, and a few have had life events create conflicts. The search for new artisans is an ongoing dilemma.
The 2009 event is still accepting artisans; Nov. 7 and 8 will soon be upon us. In our struggling economy, the committee is offering information packets to talented individuals or couples who may be interested in participating.
