Annual Ohio Rural Heritage Quilt Show in Ripley a success

The Ohio Rural Heritage Quilt Show, held on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Ripley's Library Annex next to the Union Township Library, was well-attended.
There were 69 quilts and about 45 aprons on display. There were baby quilts, vintage quilts, two crazy quilts, a poster bed quilt, machine-made quilts and lots of aprons.

The attendees were given a "People's Choice" ballet to mark their three favorite quilts, and 135 people voted. The people’s choice winners were from the Ripley and Georgetown area.
The Best of Show was a beautiful blue and yellow machined quilt called “Bargello Heart,” made by Leah Mussinan of Ripley. The second-place winner was a quilt belonging to Jill Ring of Georgetown. The pattern is called "Cathedral Window,” which was very intricate and beautiful, all handmade. The third-place quilt, called “Calico Rose,” was handmade by Josephine Lang Richard and owned by her daughter, Judith L. Gray of Ripley. It was an appliquéd quilt, and this quilt had received three other ribbons at other quilt shows.
Many thanks to Alison Gibson for opening and closing the Annex and for being there, even though the library was closed during the festival; Bob Blum of the Odyssey for the quilt banners on the sawhorses and the posters that held the aprons; the Citizens Deposit Bank for the copies needed; Laura Richards, owner of River Valley Antique Mall, for quilts and aprons; and those who brought racks: Rachel Bollman, Kristel Titus, Bev Hatley and Suzanne Emmons. Many thanks to these hard workers: Judy Davis, Kristi Scott, Suzanne Emmons, Bev Hatley, Pat Sweeney, Karen Heller, Shearlie McCaughey, Kristel Titus, Rachel Bollman and Walt Orlowsky.
