Annual Christmas in the Country tour set for Nov. 20-22

This year, Christmas in the Country will be held Nov. 20, 21 and 22. Open houses will be Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 2-5 p.m.

Christmas in the Country began four years ago when four friends and their families talked about hosting a short driving tour in Highland County to showcase their unique talents and offer the public an opportunity to visit their individual art studios.

Tucked away on obscure backroads, the Appalachian art culture is still alive and well, as these individuals pursue their hobbies during the entire year in preparation for this annual event.

Dave Waller and his daughter Brandy offer a variety of unique metal artwork, including barn stars and nativity scenes. Waller is a talented metal worker, and his work is exceptional. Their studio is located at 5320 Sorg Rd., Hillsboro, just a short hop off Rt. 62.

Brenda Bradds and her daughter D’Anne Sweet work from a three-building area they fondly call Echo Valley Village. Bradds offers a beautiful variety of hand-painted pottery in the majolica style that is both functional and food-safe. Sweet will be showcasing her glass garden art and other decorative craft items for the home. Their studios are located at 4909 Carr Road.

Kara Juillerat works from her home at 12674 Mound Road, Winchester, where she creates gorgeous pieces of jewelry made from fused glass. Her selections include bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings. Juillerat offers one-of-a-kind pieces that are all handcrafted.

Dave and Donna Stafford’s studio is located at 1632 S. Taylorsville Road. Their primitive shop features handcrafted furniture and other yard and household art. They also sell a variety of candles and other items.

Bring a friend, spend the day, visit the studio and peruse the specialty items for sale in each. This is a great way to Christmas shop for that special person. Credit cards are accepted.
