Anderson, McFadden earn AAUW scholarships

Two scholarships were awarded at the September meeting of the AAUW to local women. These scholarships have been awarded on an annual basis to nontraditional college females. The selection is based on academic achievement, clearly stated goals and academic potential. The proceeds from the annual November book sale is the primary source for funding the scholarships.
Shellie Anderson, the mother of two sons, is attending Wilmington College and working part-time. She hopes to complete her degree in special education in 2014 and eventually teach in her home county.

Kelly McFadden is working on her core classes for the nursing program at Southern State. She is currently active in SSCC activities and hopes to continue her college classes.
The AAUW-Altrusa Book Sale will be held in the Highland County Administration Building basement at 144 Governor Foraker Place. The sale will take place Thursday, Nov. 7, noon - 6 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Books can be donated at local libraries.
